Former Badger and Packer Mark Tauscher will be the lead radio analyst for UW football games

MADISON – The new lead analyst for Wisconsin football radio broadcasts is someone fans of the Badgers, and Green Bay Packers for that matter, know well.

Mark Tauscher was part of two Big Ten championship teams at Wisconsin in the late 1990s and then had an 11-year NFL career with Green Bay, where he served as the starting right tackle for Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers.

The UW athletic department announced Thursday that Tauscher will be the lead analyst for its football games beginning this season. He replaces Mike Lucas, who retired in May after handling color commentary for Badger football and men’s basketball on the radio since 1994.

"The energy around this upcoming Badger football season is electric and I'm excited to be a part of the soundtrack of Wisconsin football along with the legend Matt Lepay this fall," Tauscher said in a news release.

Since retiring from the NFL, Tauscher has forged a second career in broadcasting. He served as the second analyst for UW football for the past 10 seasons and has been the co-host of the "Wilde and Tausch" show on ESPN Milwaukee since 2016.

Tauscher, who was inducted into the Packers' Hall of Fame in 2018, also handled pregame and postgame analysis for Packers games from 2011-18.

"For more than a decade, Mark has been a terrific addition to our broadcasts of home games," Badgers play-by-play man Matt Lepay said in the release. "Tausch's combination of intelligence, sense of humor and love for the Badgers makes him a perfect fit."

In his new role, Tauscher will help produce content for Wisconsin athletics and Learfield/Badger Sports Properties.

"There is a tremendous amount of excitement and energy around our football program right now and this is another element for Wisconsin fans to be excited about," UW athletic director Chris McIntosh said in the news release. "Tausch is a Badger through and through and brings a perfect combination of football knowledge and media savvy. He has developed into a true professional in the broadcasting world and has the perspective of a former Wisconsin football player and Packer legend that our fans will enjoy. I'm excited about all the ways he'll be able to engage with our fans and bring an inside look at our football program."
