Former Alabama LB Shaun Dion Hamilton released by Lions

On Tuesday, the Detroit Lions announced that they had released former Alabama linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton via Twitter. Hamilton spent one season with the Lions organization.

The product of Montgomery, Alabama spent four seasons at Alabama. During that time, he tallied 134 tackles, 16.0 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. Hamilton became a starter by his junior season along with Butkus Award winner Reuben Foster. He suffered two season-ending injuries with the Crimson Tide during his junior and senior seasons. Nonetheless. the Washington Commanders chose him in the 6th round of the 2018 NFL draft.

Hamilton went on to spend three seasons with the organization. He would record 97 tackles as well as seven tackles for loss. After the 2020 season, Hamilton signed with the Lions. However, he didn’t record any stats with the organization.

Now, the once hard-hitting Alabama linebacker will be looking to join a new team. If he does, it will be the third team that Hamilton has joined since entering the league in 2018.
