Football: Vote for lohud Week 2 Team of the Week

The "Team of the Week" series aims to highlight big quality wins, possible upsets and solid team-wide performances.

Clarkstown South

They bounced back from a season-opening loss to Somers and collected their first win of the season with a dominant performance on both sides of the ball. The Vikings defeated Horace Greeley, 47-0, and many different players got involved. Colin Holder completed 17 of 21 passes for 266 yards and five touchdowns. Dylan Izenman led receivers with 114 yards and three touchdown receptions on just four catches. Kevin Butler caught two touchdown passes and ran for another, while Jake Teitel also had a touchdown reception. Defensively, the Vikings limited Greeley to 57 yards of total offense and forced five turnovers (four interceptions and one fumble).

Eastchester

The Eagles enjoyed another strong all-around team performance in their 35-7 win over rival Pelham to claim their first Colonial Cup in three seasons. Quarterback Aidan Schultz threw for 146 yards and two touchdowns and ran for two more touchdowns in the win. Jaden Bruner also had a touchdown. All in all, the Eagles amassed 384 yards of total offense as a team. They were lights out on defense once again, giving up just 98 yards and getting one interception from Vin Ciafone.

Harrison

The Huskies were another team to enjoy a bounce-back win where many different players got involved. They were dominant on both sides of the ball during their 42-6 win over Clarkstown North. Defensively, they made four interceptions, including pick-sixes by Joe Crupi and Dante Lanza. Offensively, Marco Citro threw for 140 passing yards and had a rushing touchdown. Christian Barchella ran for 90 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. Crupi also added a touchdown on offense.

Iona Prep

The Gaels got a marquee win over Massachusetts power Springfield Central, who had reached the state finals in each of the last four seasons and won three championships. Iona Prep won with a balanced effort and controlled the game from start to finish, opening with 24 straight points before going on to win 31-14. Crew Davis had 79 yards and a touchdown on five carries, he also caught five passes for 31 yards and a receiving touchdown. Joseph Gaston completed 19 of 26 passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns. Jared Evans had a receiving touchdown. On defense, they made two interceptions, including a Brennen Pressley pick-six, and kicker Sam Bisesi chipped in a 22-yard field goal.

Stepinac

The Crusaders were methodical and deliberate in their 34-21 win over New Jersey power DePaul Catholic. The offense moved the ball consistently and their defense made key stops in the win. Stepinac gave up the first touchdown of the game and it was the only time it trailed on Saturday, responding with 21 straight points to take a 21-7 halftime lead. Will Currid completed 32 of 40 passes for 408 yards to eight different receivers and recorded four touchdowns. Lorenzo Robinson had 124 yards on 17 carries. On defense, Eddie Palumbo had two sacks and Garrison Heslop made a diving interception.

Yorktown

The Huskers are off to their first 3-0 start since 2019, thanks to a hard-fought 19-17 win over Mahopac. Yorktown was trailing, 10-7, at half, but the Huskers elevated their game to take control and got their first win over Mahopac in 19 years. Dylan DelVecchio ran for a game-high 184 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries. Kaden Gonzalez completed 13 of 19 passes for 163 yards and a touchdown. Thomas Costello led receivers with 81 yards and a touchdown on four receptions. Defensively, Ryan Vogel (10 tackles), Andrew Weissman (nine tackles), Jack Ferone (seven tackles), Ronan Forde, Conor Duncan, Chris Constantine (six tackles each), and Chad Bowen (five tackles and a sack) led the way.
