Football roundup: State-ranked Sexton, Portland, Fowler remain unbeaten

SEXTON 42, LAKEWOOD 7

LAKE ODESSA — Joseph Pizzo threw for 330 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Division 4 No. 9-ranked J-Dubbs in their CAAC White win over Lakewood. Josiah Stewart had seven catches for 174 yards and a touchdown and also returned an interception for a score. Devon Hodges Smith added seven catches for 119 yards and a TD for Sexton (5-0, 4-0). Tavion Smith finished with 80 receiving yards and a touchdown for the J-Dubbs.

PORTLAND 52, LANSING CATHOLIC 14

PORTLAND — Caden Thelen picked up a game-high 152 yards rushing and scored five touchdowns to lead the Raiders to a CAAC White win over Lansing Catholic. Quarterback Dominic Novara threw for 57 yards and a score and ran for 66 yards, Connor Kazamer tallied 60 rushing yards and Christopher Battley grabbed 57 yards receiving and a touchdown for Portland (5-0, 4-0). Alex Fernandez threw for 168 yards and two touchdowns and Xavier Luea hauled in six receptions for 88 yards and two scores for the Cougars (2-3, 1-3).

DeWITT 45, HOLT 7

HOLT -- Elliott Larner led the Panthers with a 248 yards passing and two touchdowns and ran for 59 yards and two scores as DeWitt secured the CAAC Blue win over Holt. Abram Larner tallied five receptions for 136 yards and two touchdowns, Traverse Moore picked up 101 yards receiving and a rushing touchdown and Robert Lillie punched in a rushing touchdown for DeWitt (2-2, 1-1). Cooper Benson threw for 57 yards and Antoinne Smith ran for 52 yards and a touchdown for the Rams (2-3, 1-2).

EAST LANSING 35, GRAND BLANC 7

The Trojans scored 35 unanswered points after falling behind 7-0 while picking up a nonleague victory. Jace Clarizio ran for 157 yards and two touchdowns and Charlie Baker had 75 receiving yards and two interceptions, including one returned 33 yards for a touchdown as East Lansing (3-2) won its third straight. Isaiah Armstrong added a pair of field goals for the Trojans.

WILLIAMSTON 56, FOWLERVILLE 32

WILLIAMSTON — Zach Cribbs went 12 for 14 passing for 401 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Hornets to a CAAC Red win over Fowlerville. Max McCune hauled in five receptions for 250 yards, Noah Dunckel added 94 yards rushing and a score, with an 85-yard receiving score, and Joe Smith ran back two fumble returns for touchdowns for Williamston (3-2, 2-1). Levi Baker punched in two rushing scores for the Gladiators (1-4, 0-3).

WAVERLY 50, OKEMOS 0

DELTA TWP. — Jahi Wood led the Warriors with 221 yards rushing and three touchdowns as Waverly picked up a CAAC Blue home win over Okemos (0-5, 0-3). Evan Walker ran for 122 yards rushing with two scores and a 75-yard punt-return touchdown and Deunte Phifer added 112 yards rushing and a score for Waverly (1-4, 1-2). Freshman Atticus Joy paced Okemos with seven tackles.

ST. JOHNS 48, EASTERN 6

ST. JOHNS -- Brayden Struble ran for a team-high 64 yards and a touchdown to lead the Redwings to a CAAC Red home win over Eastern (0-5, 0-3). Brady Dush threw for 63 yards and a score and punched in a rushing touchdown, Evan Peele picked up 40 yards rushing and a touchdown and Wyatt Blemaster picked up 43 yards receiving and a touchdown for St. Johns (3-2, 2-1).

OLIVET 33, EATON RAPIDS 6

OLIVET — Ethan Schafer led all rushers with 263 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Eagles to their first CAAC White win with a victory over Eaton Rapids. Ty Evert threw for 49 yards and tallied four tackles, Teegan Otto punched in a rushing score and Dayton Ballard and Jack Masters each grabbed an interception for Olivet (1-4, 1-3). KEegan Gochenour threw for 219 yards and a touchdown and Hayden Hendrickson had six catches for 111 yards and a score for the Greyhounds (1-4, 1-3).

FOWLER 51, DANSVILLE 0

DANSVILLE — Nolan Stump ran for 62 yards and two touchdowns as the Eagles picked up a CMAC win over Dansville (0-5, 0-3). Ford Phillips picked up a team-high 76 yards rushing, Jacob Halfmann threw for 59 yards and two scores and punched in two rushing scores and Trevor Spicer led the defense with a team-high 12 tackles for Fowler (5-0, 3-0). JV score: Portland d. BATH 22, STOCKBRIDGE 14

Bradlee Uhlmann ran for 156 yards and two touchdowns for the Bees (3-2) in their nonleague win. Jalen Rogozinski threw for 177 yards and two TDs, while Drew Robinson had 94 yards receiving and a touchdown reception to lead Stockbridge (1-4).

OVID-ELSIE 42, SHEPHERD 16

ELSIE — Quarterback Tryce Tokar led the Marauders with 66 yards rushing with two touchdowns and 57 yards passing in a nonleague win over Shepherd (1-4). Carter Kelley finished with a team-high 80 yards and a touchdown, Jamison Custer tallied 40 yards rushing and a score to go with a receiving touchdown and Brock Spitzley and Javen Belill each notched a team-high eight tackles for Ovid-Elsie (3-2).

MORRICE 36, FULTON 14

MIDDLETON — Tanner Villalobos threw for 28 yards and ran for 26 yards and a touchdown for Fulton in a MSAC Red loss to Morrice (3-2, 2-1). Zach Litwiller threw for 38 yards and Trevor Brown hauled in six receptions for 36 yards and tallied a team-high seven tackles for the Pirates (4-1, 3-1).

MAPLE VALLEY 66, LAWERENCE 12

VERMONTVILLE — Andrew Sheperd ran for 146 yards and three touchdowns as the Lions ran away from Lawrence for their fifth straight win. Jakeb McDonald threw for 67 yards and three total touchdowns, Skyler Cook hauled in two receiving scores, James Penny ran for 86 yards and a touchdown and Evan Brandenburg added 85 yards rushing and a score for Maple Valley (5-0).

PERRY — Austin Poirier led the Ramblers with 104 yards rushing and a team-high five touchdowns as Perry picked up a homecoming win over Flint Northwestern (0-5). Aiden Brooks finished with 117 yards rushing and a touchdown, Cameron Doody led the defense with 12 tackles and 2.5 sacks and Timmy Hall tacked on 11 tackles and hauled in two interceptions for Perry (3-2). MANCHESTER 55, LESLIE 12

MANCHESTER — Braedon Romero and Jacob Phillips had touchdown receptions for the Blackhawks in their Cascades Conference loss. Matt Dexter and Christian Rees each added seven tackles for Leslie (2-3, 0-2).

GOODRICH 48, OWOSSO 8

OWOSSO — Hoyt Patrick ran for a team-high 69 yards and tallied 6.5 tackles for the Trojans in a Flint Metro League loss to undefeated Goodrich (5-0, 3-0). Liam Patrick connected with Santiago Aguirre for a 15-yard touchdown catch and Carson Moore and Zach Rye each added six tackles for Owosso (2-3, 0-3).
