Football roundup: Constantine, TR, Mendon, Centreville, White Pigeon and Marcellus all win

It was a happy Homecoming for Constantine on Friday night.

The Falcons scored 34 points in the first quarter and rolled to a 60-13 victory over Allegan.

Constantine piled up 545 yards on the ground in the game. They rolled up 20 first downs in the game as well and actually passed it for 34 yards.

Brayden Clark scored twice in the opening quarter. He found the end zone on runs of six and two yards. Lukas Hagenbuch scored a pair of opening quarter touchdowns in the game as well.

Up 6-0, the Falcons got on the board again with a 34-yard pass from Dean Topolski to Carter McGee. This was the second touchdown for Constantine and both conversions were unsuccessful, making it 12-0. Clark’s second TD made it 20-0 before Allegan would score and make it 20-7.

Hagenbuch’s two touchdowns ended the first quarter. His first was a 35-yard run, his second came on a 54-yard run to make it 34-7 Falcons.

In the second, Constantine found the end zone three times.

Dom Jacobs scored the first points. It came on a 3-yard TD plunge. Following that, Colin Featherstone scored to make it 47-7 after the McGee kick.

Allegan’s second score made the game 47-13.

Constantine answered. The Falcons got a third TD from Hagenbuch, this time a 45-yard tote.

The Falcons led 53-13 at halftime. There were no points in the third quarter.

In the fourth, Isaac Moore crossed the goal line to make the score 60-13 following a McGee extra point.

Topolski completed his only pass for 34 yards and a TD.

Hagenbuch led the rushing attack with 195 yards and three scores on five carries. Jacobs rushed for 96 and a score, Featherstone rumbled for 64. Clark rushed for 25.

The defense was led by Jacobs with five tackles. Caleb Bontrager also had five tackles, Hagenbuch added 4.5 tackles while McGee made four stops.

Jacobs recovered a fumble.

Three Rivers 35, Vicksburg 14

Three Rivers got back on track Friday night with a Homecoming win over Vicksburg, 35-14.

The Cats scored in al four quarters in the win. Caleb Quake was in on four of the five touchdowns in the contest.The first came in the opening quarter. Quake crossed the goal line on a 71-yard TD run at the 11:41 mark. Heston Saunders booted the extra point through and Three Rivers was out in front.

The Cats scored toward the end of the first as well. This time, Quake found Andrew Brown for a 10-yard TD strike, the Saunders extra point gave the Cats a 14-0 edge.

That score would hold up until late in the second quarter. An interception by RJ Vallier was returned for a touchdown for Vicksburg, putting the Bulldogs on the board with 3:37 remaining until halftime.

Three Rivers, though, would strike right back. The Cats for a 10-yard TD run from Quake with 2:38 remaining in the second quarter. Saunders’ extra point made the score 21-7, which is where it would be at the break.

Midway through the third, Quake would find Brown once again. This TD pitch and catch went for 86 yards, following a Saunders extra point the Cats were out ahead comfortably at 28-7.

Vicksburg would score with 15 seconds left in the third. It came on a pass from Drew Habel to Vallier, covering 31 yards. The score at 28-14 would be the closest the game would be the remainder of the contest.

Late in the fourth, TR put the finishing touches on the game. JD Detwiler rumbled into the end zone on a 6-yard TD run, with the Saunders extra point the score ended at 35-14 with 4:30 left.

Three Rivers won the total yardage at 350-226. The Cats ran 55 plays for 6.4 yards per snap.

Each team committed one turnovers, TR held the edge in the time of possession, but it was close.

Quake completed 10 passes for 206 yards and two scores. He also ran it 15 times for 113 yards.

Brown caught five passes for 168, Angelo Hausmanis hauled in three for 34.

Detwiler led the defense, he made 7.5 tackles while Jace Gray was in on six stops. Drew McClain, Saunders and Lloyd Ruesink each made four tackles.

Three Rivers, now 4-2, travels to take on Sturgis next week.

Mendon 44, Fennville 8

The Mendon Hornets won for the third consecutive week on Friday, beating Fennville 44-8.

It was the third straight week the Hornet defense showed up after holding Bloomingdale to no points and then Gobles to six last week.

All 44 points for Mendon were scored in the first half.

Evan Lukeman found the end zone on an 11-yard run for the first score. Jack McCaw found the end zone for the conversion attempt, making it 8-0.

Mendon threw the football on the next drive. Luke Schinker passed it to Gabe Haigh for a 67-yard pitch and catch, making the game 14-0.

That conversion attempt was missed and Fennville followed it up with a touchdown on the ensuing drive. This made the game 14-8, but that was as close as the game would be.

Schinker would find the end zone twice more on the ground in the opening quarter.

The first of those was a 1-yard TD plunge. The second was on an 11-yard run to end scoring in the first quarter. The score after one was 28-8 Hornets.

In the second, Mendon scored all 16 points.

Lukeman scored the first of those points with a 21-yard TD run. The second was a 24-yard TD run from McCaw.McCaw would add the conversion runs on both of those touchdowns.

Mendon piled up 306 yards on the ground in the game and 394 total. Fennville finished with 302 total yards in the game.

McCaw rushed for 131 yards on 15 carries. Lukeman rushed for 98 yards, Schinker rushed for 53.

The Hornet defense was led by Nic Stiver with seven tackles. Nathan Vergauwen totaled five tackles, as did Grant Crotser. Haigh, Lukeman and Dylan Cupp each had three stops.

Lukeman made an interception to end a Fennville drive.

Centreville 80, Cassopolis 0

The Centreville football team rolled to an 80-0 home victory over Cassopolis on Friday night.

“We asked the kids to follow the gameplan and score in all three phases tonight,” Centreville coach Jerry Schultz said. “Championship football needs to be played ever week. It was nice for the younger group to get in and put up 22 more points in the second half. We got better and played our game tonight.”

The 80 points for Centreville was a school record for the Bulldogs. They scored in double digits in three of the four quarters.

In the first, there were three TDs scored. The first was on a 45-yard TD run from Jacob Sikanas. The conversion attempt from Carter Cartier made it 8-0.

Just over a minute later, Micah Lemings returned a punt for a touchdown. This was a 55-yard return for a score, making it 14-0.

Centreville’s final score of the opening quarter came with 1:50 remaining. Gavin Bunning scored third time, it was on a 7-yard TD run and Sikanas ran the conversion in to make it 22-0.

In the second quarter, the Bulldogs posted 36 points.

Sikanas scored a whole bunch. His first was a 54-yard TD pass to Cartier.

The second was a 13-yard run from the QB, the third was a 44-yard strike to Lemings for the score.

Sikanas would find Aiden Hasbrouck on a 59-yard TD late in the quarter. Following that, Brady Miller would score with just over a minute remaining until halftime. A handful of conversion attempts were good, some were not, and the score was 50-0 at the break.

In the third, Kam Wells rumbled 73 yards for a touchdown to open scoring. He also scored on a 75-yard TD run to open the fourth.

Centreville would get an interception return for a touchdown with just under four minutes remaining in the game. That pick six came from freshman DeAndre Stout.

Centreville led in total yards, 490-61.

Centreville ran only 24 offensive snaps in the game for an average of 20.4 yards per offensive play.

Cassopolis led in one category for the night — time of possession. The Rangers held the football for 27:42.

Sikanas completed four passes for 160 yards and three touchdowns.

Wells led the rushing attack with 148 yards on two carries. Sikanas ran for 58 yards, Miller rushed for 55 and Xander Frederick rushed for 35 yards.

Hasbrouck caught one for 59, Cartier caught one for 54 and Lemings caught two for 47.

Miller led the defensive with 4.5 tackles, including one and a half sacks. Chaseton Wyckoff also had one and a half sacks with four total tackles, Kade Prichard and Lukas Brooks each had four tackles as well.

Marcellus 41, Bangor 0

The Marcellus football team won for the third straight week on Friday, beating Bangor 41-0.

Marcellus came into the game with wins over Lawrence (55-14) and Bloomingdale (66-0) in the previous two weeks.

In Friday’s win, Parker Adams completed five passes for 108 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed it seven times for 35 yards and a touchdown.

Dawsen Lehew rushed it for 164 yards and a score as well. Cole Thornburgh scored a couple of touchdowns in the game, he had 100 all-purpose yards in the game.

Brock Buck led the defense, he completed 12 tackles with four for loss, including a sack.

White Pigeon 44, Saint Charles 8

The White Pigeon football team picked up a much-needed win over Saint Charles on Saturday, 44-8. With the win, the Chiefs improve to 3-3 on the season.

Dom Frachetti led the offense for White Pigeon on Saturday. He ran 16 times for 188 yards and scored four touchdowns in the game. None of those touchdowns came in the first quarter.

The Chiefs' first points came on a 1-yard TD run from Caleb Lane. Frachetti did add the conversion attempt, making the score 8-0.

During the second quarter, Frachetti scored three times. Those touchdowns came on runs of 29 yards, 29 yards and 67 yards. The Chiefs converted on two of the conversion attempts.

John Bontrager scored a touchdown in the second quarter as well, it was a 20-yard run. James Stewart walked into the end zone for the conversion, making the score 38-0 Chiefs.

The lead grew to 44-0 after Frachetti scored his final TD.

Saint Charles had three fumbles in the game. White Pigeon rushed for 368 yards on 50 attempts.

Nate Irwin led the Chiefs on defense with eight tackles, including four for loss. Seth Miller registered seven tackles, two for loss, with two fumble recoveries as well.
