FSU football not worried about College Football Playoff rankings after Wake Forest win

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The initial College Football Playoff Rankings for the 2023 season are set to come out on Tuesday.

But for No. 4 Florida State (8-0, 6-0 ACC) where it lands in the rankings released on Halloween will be more of a trick than a treat.

No, the Seminoles are not yet worried about where they'll land following a dominant 41-16 victory over Wake Forest on Saturday at Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium.

It's safe to say FSU fans will be on social media either griping or praising where their team stands. But for the Seminoles players and coaches, they aren't concerned.

Not yet, at least.

"I don't think it's real to say 'don't pay attention,'" head coach Mike Norvell said during his Wake Forest press conference. "But we don't control it. Keep getting better, keep doing the things that we're doing and go be our best.

"We can't force anyone to. They watch. This team has been through it. They played a really good schedule, I think every team we've played is at least .500 or better. We've played a good schedule of opponents.

"But none of it will matter, all the rankings, all of the things out there if we don't continue to improve."

Norvell added the players are aware of what's going on. He won't tell the players to not watch the show on Tuesday, because they'll end up hearing one way or another.

But don't expect quarterback Jordan Travis to be one of the people watching.

"No, we're just focused on the now," Travis said when asked if he'd be watching. "We're not worried about the future right now. If the good Lord wakes us up in the morning and gives us an opportunity, we're going to take advantage of it.

"We're just taking it day to day, we're not worried about rankings and all that stuff. We can't control it. We'll control the controllable and just be ourselves."

"I ain't probably watching it," FSU receiver Keon Coleman added after admitting he didn't know it started this week. "The NBA should be on."
