Florida men’s basketball releases jersey numbers for 2022-23 season

The Florida men’s basketball team released jersey numbers for the 2022-23 season on Thursday.

With several members of last year’s team gone and a handful of newcomers to the program, there has been some shuffling of the digits on the team. The roster currently sits at 14 players, one short of the NCAA Division I limit.

While jersey numbers aren’t the most exciting news in the world, it’s what we basketball fans have to cling on to this point in anticipation of the Todd Golden era at Florida. So, without further ado, here’s a look at the 2022-23 roster and which numbers the players will be wearing come the winter.

#0 Guard Myreon Jones

Last year’s number: 0

[autotag]Myreon Jones[/autotag] is returning for his fifth year of college basketball and will wear the same No. 0 he has since he got to Penn State in 2018. After seeing substantial time on the court in 2021-22, Jones was in no danger of losing his number, and he sports one of the more unique digits out there.

#1 Forward CJ Felder

Last year’s number: 1

[autotag]CJ Felder[/autotag] has donned the loneliest number (according to Three Dog Night) since he was a sophomore at Boston College. He wore No. 0 as a freshman but switched to No. 1 with a graduate transfer taking over his number. Jones holds the same seniority over Felder despite the forward being a senior.

#2 Guard Trey Bonham

Last year’s number: 2

[autotag]Trey Bohnam[/autotag] will keep the same No. 2 he wore at the Virginia Military Institute for the past two seasons. Nobody wore the number last season and forward Samson Ruzhentzev was the last player to wear it in 2020-21 as a freshman. Ruzhentzev signed with a Serbian professional basketball team prior to his sophomore year. Let’s hope Bonham’s story ends differently.

#3 Forward Alex Fudge

Last year’s number: 3 for LSU

[autotag]Alex Fudge[/autotag] gives us the first jersey shakeup of the season. The highly coveted transfer gets to keep his No. 3 jersey but that leaves rising redshirt junior [autotag]Alex Klatsky[/autotag] numberless… for now. Sure, it’s disappointing for the three-point marksmen to lose the number, but the writing was on the wall once Fudge committed to Golden and the Gators.

#4 Guard Niels Lane

Last year’s number: 44

Patience pays off. After waiting two years behind [autotag]Anthony Duruji[/autotag] for the No. 4 jersey, Niels Lane has his number. You have to respect the No. 44 as a freshman and sophomore, too. That’s some dedication to the digit.

#5 Guard Will Richard

Last year’s number: 4 for Belmont

Belmont transfer [autotag]Will Richard[/autotag] get the No. 5 jersey this season after wearing No. 4 last year for the Bruins — a small victory for Niels Lane. The jersey was vacant and last used by forward Omar Payne in the 2020-21 season.

#10 Guard Denzel Aberdeen

Last year’s number: 1 as a prep for Dr. Phillips (Orlando)

[autotag]Denzel Aberdeen[/autotag] is one of two incoming players from Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando. He wore No. 1 for the Panthers as a junior and senior and seems to be holding out for the number by adding a zero to it and making it a 10. Expect him to jump on it once CJ Felder moves on from the program or takes over that No. 0 jersey in a fifth year.

#11 Guard Kyle Lofton

Last year’s number: 0 for St. Bonaventure

[autotag]Kyle Lofton[/autotag] held down the No. 0 jersey at St. Bonaventure for four straight years, but that wasn’t enough to take Myreon Jones’ number away from him. He’ll take over [autotag]Keyontae Johnson[/autotag]’s No. 11 after his entrance into the transfer portal.

#12 Forward Colin Castleton

Last year’s number: 12

Florida’s big man, [autotag]Colin Castleton[/autotag], made the big decision to return for a fifth year instead of declaring for the draft and he’ll wear the same No. 12 he has for the past two seasons at UF. Castleton wore the No. 11 jersey at Michigan for two seasons but took the full dozen upon teaming up with [autotag]Keyontae Johnson[/autotag]. Well established with the number at Florida, there’s no need for Castleton to switch back.

#14 Guard Kowacie Reeves

Last year’s number: 14

[autotag]Kowacie Reeves[/autotag] flirted with the transfer portal but ultimately decide to return to Florida and wear the No. 14 once again for the orange and blue. He figures to be a key member of the team this year, so get familiar with his number if you haven’t already.

#20 Guard Jack May

Last year’s number: 20

[autotag]Jack May[/autotag] has worn the No. 20 since the 2020-21 season for Florida and will hold it down for his third year with the program.

#21 Guard Alex Klatsky

Last year’s number: 3

As mentioned earlier, Alex Fudge’s transfer left Alex Klatsky looking for a new jersey number and he landed on No. 21. The three-point specialist has worn the No. 3 since high school, so this will be something new for him. Maybe it’s a way to manifest a 7-for-7 night from downtown this season (21 points). Dontay Bassett was the last Gator to wear No. 21 in the 2019-20 season

#24 Guard Riley Kugel

Last year’s number: 2 as a prep for Dr. Phillips (Orlando)

[autotag]Riley Kugel[/autotag] is the higher-rated freshman on the team along with Denzel Aberdeen, but he’s not getting either number he wore on the varsity at Dr. Phillips. After wearing Nos. 2 and 11 with the Panthers, Kugel is switching to No. 24 in orange and blue.

#33 Center Jason Jitoboh

Last year’s number: 33

Florida’s only true center, [autotag]Jason Jitoboh[/autotag], started to put together meaningful minutes last year after leaning up in the offseason, but an eye injury No. 33’s season early. He’s worn the number all three years of his college career at UF and is sticking with it for his senior year.
