Florida football loses one of its highest-rated commits

In a matter of five days, Florida lost two of its three highest-rated recruits in the 2022 class.

On Monday night, Julian Humphrey, a four-star cornerback from Clear Lake High School in Houston, announced that he would be decommitting from the Gators. Humphrey is the No. 12 cornerback nationally and No. 94 player overall, per the 247Sports Composite.

This news comes just a few days after the top player in Florida’s class, four-star linebacker Shemar James, left the class. Both James and Humphrey officially visited Georgia this month (with James’ visit coming four days before his decommittment), and the Bulldogs are considered the favorites to land both right now.

Those losses cost this class dearly. There are still some top targets Florida is in the mix for, but if it misses on them, this will likely be coach Dan Mullen‘s worst class at Florida.

The class currently ranks No. 23 according to 247Sports and No. 34 according to Rivals. Recruiting has been a major issue for Mullen at Florida, and with this team likely heading toward its most disappointing finish, the future outlook for the program from a talent perspective is less than ideal right now.
