Florida football cracks AP Top 25 after upset win over Tennessee

The Florida Gators received plenty votes from the Associated Press after a monumental upset over the Tennessee Volunteers at home.

Florida cracked the list of top teams in the nation and landed at No. 25 in the AP poll.

The Gators played more than well on both sides of the football Saturday night and literally ran over the Volunteers on their way to a 29-16 victory. The game felt like another redemption for the orange and blue after suffering a brutal loss in Salt Lake City.

Tennessee, on the hand, fell several spots to No. 23. The cracks started to show in the Volunteers’ offense as they struggled to move the ball down the field at a consistent rate.

Florida’s SEC rival Georgia stands tall at No. 1 with an undefeated record after surviving their matchup with South Carolina, 24-14. Another conference opponent, the LSU Tigers, moved up two spots to No. 12 after downing the Mississippi State Bulldogs, 41-14.

The Gators’ in-state rival Florida State is still winning football games and stays in the College Football Playoff race at No. 4, falling one spot after a nail-biter against Boston College.

Boston College kept the game close and kept the Seminoles at bay for most of the game and even had a chance to score a go-ahead touchdown until an ill-timed penalty occurred.

The Gators will catch a break this week and enter their next matchup with the Charlotte 49ers as highly touted favorites at The Swamp. A win might move them up a few spots, but the opponent’s strength might keep the Gators stagnant in next week’s poll.
