Florida falls a few spots in KenPom following LSU home win

The Gator Nation has had its fair share of late-game drama the past several months stretching across both football and basketball, and that trend continued on Tuesday night as Florida relinquished a 20-point lead only to hold on for an 82-80 win over the visiting LSU Tigers.

Following the win, the Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings saw the Orange and Blue fall three spots from our previous update to No. 29 overall, putting them between the No. 28 Florida Atlantic Owls and No. 30 Oklahoma Sooners.

The Pomeroy rankings use adjusted efficiency margin — the difference between adjusted offensive efficiency and adjusted defensive efficiency — to rank all teams.

Golden’s gang now has a margin of plus-17.89 (down 0.56 points) which means the team is expected to score 17.86 more points than the average opponent. They still ranked tenth in adjusted offensive efficiency (118.9) but fell to 81st in adjusted defensive efficiency (101.0).

KenPom also has Florida’s overall strength of schedule rated at plus-8.12, which is 31st in the nation; its non-conference schedule rating received a score of plus-1.47 which puts the Gators at No. 126.

Golden and the Gators next travel to Athens for a rematch with the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday, Feb. 17. Tipoff is slated for an early 1 p.m. start and the game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
