Florida bettor loses $1.5 million betting on one-win Kent State football team

Somewhere in Florida, someone has faith in Kent State Golden Flashes football.

Kent was a decided underdog to the Bowling Green Falcons last Wednesday. That didn’t scare off at least one gambler, according to an ESPN report.

Kent was a 10.5-point underdog to the Falcons and a bettor took the points and bet $1.12 million on the Golden Flashes with the Hard Rock online sportsbook. That person must’ve felt really confident because they bet another $426,000 on the Kent State money line at +325.

Easy come. Easier gone. The outcome wasn’t even close as the Golden Flashes, now 1-9 on the season, lost 49-19. Hey, it's only $1.536 million, right?

Some might consider a Mid-American Conference game played on a Wednesday night in November inconsequential to gamblers. MACtion, however, is never inconsequential.

John Chapper, senior director of Hard Rock Digital, told ESPN that’s not necessarily the case.

"With such a large and diverse population, nothing is 'low profile,'" Chapper told ESPN. "We see great interest in wagers across our deep betting markets. That said, we're always performing due diligence, especially on large wagers."
