Flagler women's golf dominates NCAA Division II stroke play to earn top seed in match play

The Flagler College women's golf team is in the driver's seat at the NCAA Division II national championship.

Sophomore Stella Jelinek (68) tied for third at 6-under-par 210 and junior Jordyn Hodgson (69) finished fifth at 5-under 211 through 54 holes of stroke play at Orange County National Golf Center Panther Lake Course in Winter Garden to lead the Saints to a first place with a team score of 13-under, four shots ahead of West Texas A&M.

Flagler is the top seed for match play and will face No. 8 St. Mary's (Texas) on Friday beginning at 8 a.m. The five players on each team will compete over 18 holes, with one point for a victory and a half-point for a draw. The first team to reach three points wins the match and advances to the semifinals on Friday afternoon.

The other matches are West Texas A&M vs. No. 7 University of Indianapolis, No. 3 Dallas Baptist vs. No. 6 Henderson State and No. 4 Lynn vs. No. 5 Findlay State.

Flagler sophomore Henriette Stranda (72) tied for 10th at 2-under 214 and senior Sophie Wheeler (72) tied for 14th at even par 216.

Gabby Woods of Findlay (69) won the individual championship at 9-under 207, edging Olivia Mitchell of Dallas Baptist (67) by one shot.

Jelinek, Hodgson and Stranda earned all-tournament honors with their top-10 finishes.
