Flag football quarters: Choctaw ends Clay's run in FHSAA final eight

A third-quarter touchdown sent Choctawhatchee to the final four and ended Clay's historic season on the flag football field, edging the Blue Devils 13-6 in Friday's Florida High School Athletic Association Class 1A state quarterfinal.

Choctaw (16-1) advances to next week's state finals at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' AdventHealth Training Center.

The Blue Devils (13-2), who had allowed only 20 points all year, fought back from a first-quarter deficit to tie the score entering halftime.

But the Big Green pulled ahead and contained Clay for the rest of the evening. No Northeast Florida teams advanced to the FHSAA final four, the first shutout for the area since 2021.
