Five-star WR Evan Stewart officially signs with Texas A&M

Five-star wide receiver Evan Stewart officially signed with the Texas A&M Aggies on Friday.

Stewart has been one of the top targets on Texas’ board for quite some time now. The Frisco native was once committed to the Longhorns for roughly a month earlier this year, but chose to open up his recruitment on March 11.

Since then, Stewart made a few visits to Austin and has consistently toyed around with Texas fans on social media. It was evident that the Aggies and Longhorns were the top two schools in his recruitment.

Wide receiver is a crucial position of need for Texas, and they consistently pushed hard for Stewart up until the pen hit the paper. There were rumblings that Stewart may not sign during the early signing period due to the progress Steve Sarkisian’s staff was making recently, but it ended up not being enough.

Stewart is rated the No. 1 wide receiver in the country for the 2022 recruiting class and the No. 1 overall prospect in the state of Texas, according to 247Sports.

It’s a tough blow for Texas’ program, but it’s likely they’ll now look to the transfer portal to try and solidify depth at the position.
