INDIAN RIVER – It was another successful season on the diamond for the Inland Lakes softball team, which captured a share of the Ski Valley Conference championship.

Following the end of their campaign, five Bulldogs recently earned nods on the All-Ski Valley first team.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs were seniors Natalie Wandrie and Ryann Clancy, who both shined throughout the campaign. Teammates joining Wandrie and Clancy on the first team were fellow senior Caleigh Jones, junior Maggie Grant, and sophomore Brooklyn LaBrecque. Earning All-Ski Valley honorable mention recognition was freshman Jenna Stubbs.

Each of those Bulldogs played a major role in helping share the conference crown with Johannesburg-Lewiston. Both teams finished with 15-1 identical league records and split during their regular season meeting, but it was the Cardinals who got the last laugh by defeating the Bulldogs in a regional semifinal showdown in Rudyard on Saturday, June 10. JoBurg made it all the way to the state semifinals before bowing out to Mendon.

Winning the Ski Valley Conference Player of the Year honor was JoBurg junior Jayden Marlatt, an outstanding pitcher and hitter for the Cardinals.

Meanwhile, Onaway sophomore Kailyn George made the All-Ski Valley first team after a terrific campaign. George excelled as a centerfielder and was one of the best offensive players for the Cardinals.

Robbins will continue her softball career at Aquinas College next season. Onaway also saw sophomores Ema DeMaestri and Charlotte Box, as well as freshman Marley Szymoniak, receive All-Ski Valley honorable mention recognition.

Representing the Pellston Hornets on the All-Ski Valley second team were senior Megan Bricker, sophomore Haleigh Bohn, and freshman Ella Klungle. All three helped fuel the Hornets, who rebounded nicely from a slow start to the campaign and held their own in Ski Valley play.
