First half recap of Texas’ Week 5 matchup against TCU

Texas leads TCU 23-17 at the half, but it hasn’t been pretty.

The Longhorns have struggled to get anything going through the air. Their leading receiver is running back Bijan Robinson, who brought in one reception for 16 yards.

TCU got off to a hot start after returning the opening kickoff 85 yards, ultimately resulting in a Zach Evans touchdown to put the Horned Frogs on the board first.

Texas quarterback Casey Thompson has struggled, and although there were some key drops by receivers, he had a few missed deep balls and several instances where TCU should have intercepted him. Thompson averaged just 3.4 yards per attempt in the first half.

The Horned Frogs turned the ball over twice up to this point, but the Longhorns were not able to capitalize with touchdowns. If Texas wants to escape Fort Worth with a win this week, they’ll need to heavily rely on their star running back to carry them through the second half.

Key stats

Bijan Robinson (RB): 17 carries for 103 yards and two touchdowns
