Final regular-season NIC-10 football stats: A near-record number of 500-yard receivers

Auburn's Leonard Spates and Freeport's Zac Matz passed the 500-yard receiving threshold Friday. If Hononegah's Cole Schmall (440 yards) and/or Boylan's Santana English (427) can get there with their seasons extending into the playoffs, it will tie for the second-most players in NIC-10 history to have 500 yards receiving in the same season.

The huge outlier was 2019, when seven players did it, including three from Harlem and two from Boylan. The next-most is four, done in 1990, 2001 and 2002. So this year has a good chance to at least tie for second-most in league history. And the top two receivers will go head-to-head this week when Auburn plays at Hononegah in the first round of the playoffs.

Here are our updated large-school football stats, for all NIC-10 teams plus Rochelle. Stats for Belvidere are only through Week 8, but will be updated as soon as the team reports their stats from Friday's regular-season finale:
