The Final Push: Top Greater Taunton H.S. sports performers for Feb. 19-25

TAUNTON— The final week of the winter high school sports regular season is upon us in the Greater Taunton area.

Last week, seven local wrestlers were crowned state champions in their respective divisions while a Taunton boys basketball player reached a career milestone and a handful of school indoor track and field records were broken by Taunton and Bridgewater-Raynham athletes.

Here's a look at the at the Greater Taunton area's top performing high school athletes from the third full week of February.

Saturday

Boys Indoor Track

Dmitrius Shearrion had the top finish for Taunton (1-4, 1-4 Hockomock), coming in 11th in the 300 meter with a time of 0:35.82 while Ancil Alexander came in 18th in the shot put with a top throw of 46'7.25" at the MIAA Meet of Champions at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Kauan Bento led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (2-0, 2-0 SEC), finishing eighth in the 55 meter dash with a time of 0:06.59 while the 4x200 meter relay team of Bento, Connor Johnson, Joseph Manning and Evan Bray finished 10th with a time of 1:32.6 at the MIAA Meet of Champions at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Girls Indoor Track

The 4x400 meter relay team of Alisha Gomes, Lily Giurleo, Emily Keefe and Sydney O'Donnell were the top finishers for Bridgewater-Raynham (2-0, 2-0 SEC) while O'Donnell was the best individual finisher, coming in 15th in the 1000 meter with a time of 3:09.39.

Boys Wrestling

Ethan Harris (190) finished runner up while Elijah Prophete (215) came in sixth and John Mandeville (144) came in eighth as Taunton (14-6, 3-2 Hockomock) finished 12th overall with 50 points at the MIAA All States tournament at Salem High School.

Brent von Magnus (132) finished runner up while Luke Driscoll (175) came in seventh as Bridgewater-Raynham (24-3, 3-0 SEC) finished tied for 19th overall with 37.5 points at the MIAA All States tournament at Salem High School.

Jacob Bettencourt (144) and Nathan Hicks (157) both finished third while Jack Ramondetta (165) came in eighth as Bristol-Plymouth finished 14th overall with 47.5 points at the MIAA All States tournament at Salem High School.

Luis Garcia (113) finished third as Bristol Aggie/Dighton-Rehoboth finished tied for 35th overall with 24 points at the MIAA All States tournament at Salem High School.

Girls Wrestling

Taunton (14-6, 3-2 Hockomock) finished tied for 64th overall with no points at the MIAA All States tournament at Salem High School.

Olivia Polansky (107) finished runner up while Kennedie Davis (114) came in third as Bridgewater-Raynham (24-3, 3-0 SEC) finished tied for eighth overall with 36 points at the MIAA All States tournament at Salem High School.

Brooke Weafer (114) finished runner up as Bristol-Plymouth finished 29th overall with 20 points at the MIAA All States tournament at Salem High School.

Hannah Dyckman (120) finished sixth overall as Bristol Aggie/Dighton-Rehoboth finished tied for 53rd overall with nine points at the MIAA All States tournament at Salem High School.

Thursday

Boys Hockey

Dighton-Rehoboth/Seekonk (11-9, 5-5 SCC) fell 5-2 to Old Rochester on the road in SCC action.

Wednesday

Boys Basketball

Deshawn Faulk led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (11-9, 4-3 SEC) with 17 points while Bobby Louis had 16 and Jack Hannigan and Cam Santos each had 13 as the Trojans beat Pembroke 67-61 to win the Panther Classic at Whitman-Hanson Regional High School. Faulk was named the tournament MVP while Louis was named to the All-Tournament team.

Girls Hockey

Cammy Shanteler led the way for Mansfield/Oliver Ames/Foxboro/Taunton (7-10-3, 3-5-0 Hockomock) with a goal and an assist while Annabelle Fanjoy and Maeve Anastasia also found the back of the net as the Warriors beat Dennis-Yarmouth/Cape Cod Academy/St. John Paul II 3-1 at home in non-league action.

Riley Bain scored the lone goal for West Bridgewater/East Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raynham/Bristol-Plymouth/Southeastern/Middleboro (7-13), assisted by Grace Ogilvie, as the Wild Vikings fell 4-1 to Hanover at home to wrap up the season.

Tuesday

Boys Basketball

Deshawn Faulk led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (10-9, 4-3 Southeast Conference) with 18 points while Bobby Louis had 17 and Lee Williams had 10 as the Trojans beat Whitman-Hanson 62-56 in the opening round of the Panther Classic at Whitman-Hanson Regional High School. With the win, B-R clinched a spot in the Division 1 tournament.

Ryan Donovan led the way for Bristol-Plymouth (7-13, 4-4 MAC) with 20 points as the Craftsmen fell 66-38 to Shawsheen Valley Tech on the road in non-league action to wrap up the season.

Jordan Dietz led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (7-13, 3-10 SCC) with 24 points as the Falcons fell 61-48 to Middleboro in the conciliation game of the Warrior Classic at Foxboro High School.

Girls Basketball

Bristol-Plymouth (3-17, 0-10 MAC) fell 39-12 to Nantucket on the road in non-league action to wrap up the season.

Maddie Blenkush led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (3-17, 2-11 SCC) with 13 points while Caraline Corvi had five as the Falcons fell 63-40 to Sandwich on the road in non-league action to wrap up the season.

Monday

Boys Basketball

Aidan Marando led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (7-12, 3-10 South Coast Conference) with 11 points while Jordan Dietz had eight and Dylan Andreozzi had seven as the Falcons fell 76-67 to Medfield in the opening round of the Warrior Classic at Foxboro High School.

Boys Hockey

Brady Gomes and Jamie Valarelli both found the back of the net for Taunton (14-7-1, 4-5-1 Hockomock League) while Tre Nadeau and Matt Maher recorded assists as the Tigers fell 3-2 to Diman/Durfee/Westport at home in the Battle of Bristol championship game. Goalie Cam Tomaszycki made 15 saves in net for Taunton.

Bobby Quill led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (3-17) with a pair of goals and an assist while Sean Nasiff had a goal and a pair of assists and Jack Dion and Matt Lydon each had a goal and an assist as the Trojans beat West Bridgewater/East Bridgewater 5-3 at home to wrap up the season.

Southeastern/Bristol-Plymouth (13-7, 9-1 Mayflower Athletic Conference) fell 6-1 to Cohasset/Hull on the road in non-league action.

Adam Bastis led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth/Seekonk (11-8, 5-4 SCC) with four goals while Brett Axon had a pair of goals, Aidan Boothe had three assists, Liam Blenkush had a pair of assists and Anthony D'Aiello recorded an assist as the Falcon Warriors beat Stoughton/Brockton 6-2 in the conciliation game of the Battle of Bristol tournament at the Aleixo Arena.

Girls Hockey

Cammy Shanteler and Emma Rabinovich each had a goal and an assist as Mansfield/Oliver Ames/Foxboro/Taunton (6-10-3, 3-5-0 Hockomock) fell 5-2 to Bishop Feehan on the road in non-league action.
