Division Champs: Top Greater Taunton H.S. sports performers for Feb. 12-18

TAUNTON— Another week of high school sports action is upon us in the Greater Taunton area.

Last week, Taunton wrestling won its third straight Division 1 South Sectional while Bridgewater-Raynham/West Bridgewater gymnastics won their eighth straight Cranberry League Championship and a Taunton boys basketball player moved one step closer to his 1,000th point.

Here's a look at the at the Greater Taunton area's top performing high school athletes from the second full week of February.

Sunday

Boys Basketball

Noah Perry-Lewis led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (9-9, 4-3 SEC) with 17 points while Bobby Louis had 15 and Deshawn Faulk had 12 as the Trojans fell 70-67 to Durfee on the road in SEC action.

Girls Basketball

Reese Bartlett led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (14-6, 6-2 SEC) with 21 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals as the Trojans fell 58-48 to Bishop Feehan at Woburn High School in the conciliation round of the Comcast Classic. Bartlett was named to the All-Tournament team for the second year in a row.

Boys Indoor Track

The 4x200 meter relay team of William Dalton, Joel DaSilva, Seamus Sullivan and Matt Suprenard finished fifth with a time of 1:34.8 as Dighton-Rehoboth finished tied for 25th with six points at the MIAA Division 4 Championship at the Reggie Lewis Center. Tim Zibrida was both the top individual and field event finisher for the Falcons, coming in seventh in the shot put with a personal best throw of 44'7".

Girls Indoor Track

Ryann Welzel finished eighth overall in the shot put with a top throw of 33'5.5" as Dighton-Rehoboth finished tied for 34th with one point at the MIAA Division 4 Championship at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Saturday

Girls Basketball

Reese Bartlett led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (14-5, 6-2 SEC) with 15 points, seven rebounds and two steals while Camden Strandberg had 12 points, two rebounds and two blocks as the Trojans fell 78-38 to Foxboro at Woburn High School in the opening round of the Comcast Classic.

Boys Hockey

Conner Goranson led the way for Taunton (14-6-1, 4-5-1 Hockomock) with a goal and an assist while Breighdyn Simmons, Jamie Valarelli and Tre Nadeau all found the back of the net and Jonathan McGrath, Braden Lachance, Riley Mellin, Owen Hathaway and Travis Cashman each recorded an assist as the Tigers beat Dighton-Rehoboth/Seekonk (10-8, 5-4 SCC) 4-2 at home in the opening round of The Battle of Bristol tournament. Aidan Boothe led the way for the Falcon Warriors with a goal and an assist while Adam Bastis also found the back of the net and Brett Axon recorded an assist.

Southeastern/Bristol-Plymouth (13-5, 9-1 MAC) fell 3-0 to Bishop Stang in the second round of the Spartan Cup at the Hetland Memorial Arena.

Girls Hockey

Mansfield/Oliver Ames/Foxboro/Taunton (6-9-3, 3-5-0 Hockomock) fell 4-0 to Bishop Feehan at home in non-league action.

Boys Indoor Track

Kauan Bento was the top finisher for Bridgewater-Raynham (2-0, 2-0 SEC), setting a new school record as he came in second in the 55 meter dash with a personal best time of 0:06.46 as the Trojans finished 12th overall with 16 points at the MIAA Division 2 Championship at the Reggie Lewis Center. The 4x200 meter relay team of Bento, Connor Johnson, Joseph Manning and Evan Bray finished third with a time of 1:32.89 and Bray finished eighth in the 55 meter dash with a time of 0:06.66 and Malik Washburn finished eighth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 0:08.16.

Girls Indoor Track

Sydney O'Donnell was the top finisher for Bridgewater-Raynham (2-0, 2-0 SEC), coming in fifth with a personal best time of 3:02.96 as the Trojans finished 17th overall with eight points at the MIAA Division 2 Championship at the Reggie Lewis Center. The 4x400 meter relay team of Alisha Gomes, Lily Giurleo, Emily Keefe and O'Donnell finished fifth with a time of 4:11.34.

Boys Wrestling

Ethan Harris (190) and Elijah Prophete (215) were crowned champions of their respective weight classes while John Mandeville (144) finished second and Mike Leskoski (120) and Kinsgton DaCosta (175) as Taunton (14-6, 3-2 Hockomock) finished fourth overall with 114 points on the second day of the MIAA Division 1 Championship at Newton South High School.

Brent von Magnus was crowned the 132 lb. weight class champion while Luke Driscoll (175) finished second, Jackson Rinke (215) finished third, Jack Alves (138) finished fifth, Brenton Allain (150) finished seventh and Lucas Santos (120) and Cameron Abrams (165) finished eighth as Bridgewater-Raynham (24-3, 3-0 SEC) finished third overall with 106 points on the second day of the MIAA Division 2 Championship at Algonquin Regional High School.

Jacob Bettencourt (144) was crowned the 144 lb. weight class champion while Nathan Hicks (157) finished second and Jack Ramondetta (165) finished fourth as Bristol-Plymouth finished seventh overall with 67 points on the second day of the MIAA Division 3 Championship at Wakefield Memorial High School.

Luis Garcia (113) finished second while Griffin Machie (106) came in fifth, Ryan Moitoso (138) came in sixth and Malakai Risotti (175) came in seventh as Bristol Aggie/Dighton-Rehoboth finished 12th overall with 62 points on the second day of the MIAA Division 3 Championship at Wakefield Memorial High School.

Girls Wrestling

Fiona Laffan (152) finished second while Danielle Haen (145) came in fourth as Taunton (14-6, 3-2 Hockomock) finished tied for 10th with 23 points at the MIAA Division 1 Championship at Newton South High School.

Olivia Polansky was crowned the 107 lb. weight class champion while Kennedie Davis (114) finished second as Bridgewater-Raynham (24-3, 3-0 SEC) finished tied for sixth with 46 points at the MIAA Division 2 Championship at Algonquin Regional High School.

Brooke Weafer was crowned the 114 lb. weight class champion while Rileigh Fagan (132) came in second and Raegan Price (114) finished fourth as Bristol-Plymouth finished tied for third with 40 points at the MIAA Division 3 Championship at Wakefield Memorial High School.

Hannah Dyckman was crowned the 120 lb. weight class champion as Bristol Aggie/Dighton-Rehoboth finished eighth overall with 25 points at the MIAA Division 3 Championship at Wakefield Memorial High School.

Friday

Boys Basketball

Troy Santos led the way for Taunton (14-6, 10-6 Hockomock) with 31 points, including his 1,000th career point, while Cyrus Morrisette had 13 and Dray Thielker had 12 as the Tigers fell 81-75 on the road to King Philip in Hockomock action.

Dylan Andreozzi led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (7-11, 3-10 SCC) with 19 points while Aidan Marando had 14 and Jordan Dietz had 12 as the Falcons beat Seekonk 63-53 at home in SCC action.

Girls Basketball

Taunton (14-6, 10-6 Hockomock) fell 55-36 to King Philip at home in Hockomock action.

Reese Jefferson led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (3-16, 2-11 SCC) with 15 points while Lucy Latour had eight as the Falcons fell 48-44 to Seekonk on the road in SCC action.

Wrestling

John Mandeville (144), Ethan Harris (190) and Elijah Prophete (215) all advanced to their respective weight class semi-finals while Mike Leskoski (120), who recorded his 100th career win, and Kingston DaCosta (175) are in the third place bracket semi-finals as Taunton (14-6, 3-2 Hockomock) sits in fifth place with 49 points after the first day of the MIAA Division 1 Championship at Newton South High School.

Zach Branco led the way for Bristol-Plymouth (7-12, 4-4 MAC) with 16 points while Greg Aisiku had 10 as the Craftsmen fell 66-37 to Case at home in non-league action.

Girls Basketball

Bristol-Plymouth (3-16, 0-10 MAC) fell 51-34 to Holbrook on the road in MAC action.

Boys Indoor Track

Ancil Alexander had the top finish for Taunton (1-4, 1-4 Hockomock), coming in fifth in the shot put with a personal best throw of 49'3.5" while Dmitrius Shearrion set a new school record in the 55 meter dash as he finished sixth with a personal best time of 0:06.6 and finished sixth in the 300 meter with a time of 0:35.47 as the Tigers finished 16th overall with 10 points at the MIAA Division 1 Championship at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Girls Indoor Track

Emersyn DePonte finished seventh in the two mile with a time of 11:46.14 as Taunton (1-4, 1-4 Hockomock) finished 24th overall with two points at the MIAA Division 1 Championship at the Reggie Lewis Center. Sophia Olaniyan had the top finish for the Tigers in field events, coming in 11th with a top throw of 32'4.75".

Wednesday

Boys Basketball

Troy Santos led the way for Taunton (14-5, 10-5 Hockomock) with 26 points while Cyrus Morrisette had 18 and Tyson Carter had 13 as the Tigers beat Milford 72-62 on the road in Hockomock action.

Donte Morris led the way for Bristol-Plymouth (7-11, 4-4 MAC) with 14 points while Ryan Donovan had nine and Jamari Harris had eight points and 10 rebounds as the Craftsmen fell 55-36 to Falmouth on the road in non-league action.

Aidan Marando led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (6-11, 2-10 South Coast Conference) with 15 points while Kensley Macean had 10 as the Falcons fell 52-48 to Greater New Bedford at home in SCC action.

Girls Basketball

Camden Strandberg led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (14-4, 6-2 Southeast Conference) with 22 points, five rebounds and two blocks as the Trojans beat Durfee 44-34 at home in SEC action.

Lucy Latour led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (3-15, 2-10 SCC) with 16 points while Megan Keane had nine as the Falcons beat Greater New Bedford 44-36 on the road in SCC action.

Boys Hockey

Matt Maher, Tre Nadeau and Drew Nadeau all found the back of the net for Taunton (13-6-1, 4-5-1 Hockomock) while Breighdyn Simmons had a pair of assists and Jonathan McGrath, Travis Cashman and Jamie Valarelli each recorded assists as the Tigers beat Apponequet/Old Colony 3-2 on the road in non-league action. Goalie Cam Tomaszycki made 24 saves in net for Taunton.

Nate Adducci, Matt Lydon and Will Foley all found the back of the net for Bridgewater-Raynham (2-16) while Anthony Mussari had a pair of assists and Bobby Quill, Sean Nassiff and Jack Dion each recorded an assist as Bridgewater-Raynham beat Foxboro 3-1 on the road.

Southeastern/Bristol-Plymouth (13-5, 9-1 MAC) fell 2-1 to Bishop Stang in overtime in the opening round of the Spartan Cup at the Hetland Memorial Arena.

Adam Bastis led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth/Seekonk (10-7, 5-4 SCC) with a pair of goals and a pair of assists while Aidan Boothe had two goals and an assist, Connar Dexter and Colin Lush both had a pair of goals, Brett Axon and Cameron Johnson had a pair of assists and Evan Silvia and Liam Blenkush each recorded an assist as the Falcon Warriors defeated Diman/Durfee/Westport 8-4 at home in non-league action.

Taryn Campbell led the way for Taunton (14-5, 10-5 Hockomock League) with 13 points while Jillian Doherty and Chelsea Bousquet each had 11 as the Tigers beat Milford 50-27 at home in Hockomock action. With the win, Taunton claims at least a share of its first Hockomock Kelley-Rex title.

Bristol-Plymouth (3-15, 0-9 Mayflower Athletic Conference) fell 52-17 to Upper Cape Tech on the road in MAC action.
