Film Review: Rutgers football finds an underrated three-star recruit in Edd Guerrier

Rutgers football landed a three-star 2024 recruit Edd Guerrier from Port Charlotte, Florida. Guerrier, a 5-foot-10, 195-pound running back, totaled 2,562 yards and 32 touchdowns in 25 games during his high school career. Also, he recorded 19 receptions for 282 yards and one touchdown throughout the past three seasons with the Pirates.

The Flordia native committed to Rutgers football on August 6 after receiving offers from Bowling Green, Louisville, South Dakota, Tennessee Tech, and Wofford. According to 247Sports, Guerrier is the No. 95 ranked running back in the nation and No. 195 prospect in Florida for the 2024 recruiting class.

As a sophomore in 2021, the future Scarlet Knight ran for 936 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Pirates. In 2022, Guerrier helped Port Charlotte achieve a 7-3 record and a bid to the second round of the state playoffs. During his junior season, he logged 188 carries for 1,450 yards (7.7 yards per carry) and 20 touchdowns.

Film Breakdown

When reviewing Guerrier’s highlight film, his burst of speed is the first athletic characteristic that stands out. According to Guerrier’s Hudl profile, the speedy running back recorded a 4.4 time in the 40-yard dash. The 2024 recruit exceeds in the open field, showing off his breakaway speed.

Guerrier’s vision and familiarity with zone running will allow him to succeed under Rutgers Offensive Coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca’s rushing scheme.

Being a little undersized for a running back at the Power Five level, the 5-foot-10 recruit is a powerful runner. Guerrier earns extra yardage on each carry, not stopping his feet after contact. The Scarlet Knights can benefit from Guerrier’s speed and strong running on special teams, adding a dangerous return man to their roster.

Looking at Rutgers’ roster outlook, the Scarlet Knights have eight running backs in their program when Guerrier reports to campus in 2024. With a crowded backfield, Guerrier has to outwork the other running backs on Rutgers’ roster if he wants to get some carries at the Power Five level.
