Filip Forsberg has superstar performance, breaks two more Nashville Predators records

On Friday night at United Center in Chicago, Filip Forsberg looked like a superstar.

Of course, he has been that all season for the Nashville Predators. But he was even more so against the Blackhawks, scoring his 10th career hat trick and breaking two franchise goal records in a 5-1 victory.

Forsberg needed just one goal to break the Predators' single-season record. He did it on his very first shot, less than six minutes into the game, scoring his 44th goal on the power play.

That pushed him past Matt Duchene's 43-goal mark set two seasons ago — but Forsberg wasn't finished.

He put the Predators up 3-0 in the second period, taking advantage of a Chicago turnover, and put his second goal of the night by Arvid Soderblom.

That gave him 45 goals, another milestone in Predators history.

But again — Forsberg wasn't finished.

Early in the third period, with the Predators on another power play, Forsberg scored his third goal of the night, this time while standing on the backdoor of the Blackhawks' goal. Two brilliant passes — one by Luke Evangelista, one by Ryan O'Reilly — made it happen, but Forsberg also was in the right place.

That put the Predators up 5-1, effectively ending the night for the Blackhawks, and gave Forsberg his 10th career hat trick.

"You've just got to get (Forsberg) the puck," Evangelista told Bally Sports after the game. "Let him shoot, let him do his thing."

Not only did Forsberg set a franchise record for goals in a season (now at 46), he set a record for most multi-goal games in a season (10). That mark also had been held by Duchene.

The hat trick was Forsberg's second against Chicago. The first was in Game 5 of the Predators' first-round Stanley Cup playoff series with the Blackhawks in 2015.

It had been a few games without seeing what Forsberg is capable of — he had not scored since April 4 against St. Louis — but his performance on Friday should leave no doubt about his superstar status in Nashville.
