FGCU women's basketball led 1-0 over Oklahoma before tipoff in March Madness. Here's why

Before their March Madness game even started, the Florida Gulf Coast women's basketball team had the lead.

No. 12 FGCU and No. 5 Oklahoma were set to tip off Saturday afternoon in Indiana. Well, the Eagles were ready, at least; the Sooners were late turning in their starting lineup to the officials.

The delay led to a technical foul assessed to the team, and before the NCAA Tournament game tipped off, Uju Ezeudu went to the foul line to shoot a pair of free throws. The fifth-year senior missed the first shot but sank the second to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead before the clock started.

The teams then headed to midcourt, and the game finally got underway.

The Sooners got the last laugh, though, winning the game 73-70 and moving on to the second round Monday.
