Fast-paced offense helps SHS sweep Paw Paw

STURGIS — The home-opener for the Sturgis volleyball team went about as well as expected on Thursday.

The Lady Trojans had a good fan attendance and that helped fuel the team to a sweep of all three matches. Sturgis beat Paw Paw in the varsity match 25-21, 25-9 and 25-12 and also picked up wins in the freshmen and junior varsity levels as well.

"Team chemistry is awesome, we all flow well together on the court," Sturgis coach Brian Jordan said. "Our offense came around tonight, it was fast. The quick offense and good communication helped us tonight."

Three Rivers beats Niles

Three Rivers won a four-set match over Niles on Thursday 25-14, 23-25, 25-14 and 25-19.

Jenna Southland once again led the offense with 16 kills, she scored three aces as well. Allie McGlothlen posted eight kills while Lanie Glass added four.

Arabella Mangold finished with nine kills in the match, Maddie O'Hara logged eight.

Miley Southland handed out 49 assists with three kills, Aliza Munro posted 11 digs.

Centreville tops White Pigeon

The Centreville volleyball team beat White Pigeon 27-25, 25-8 and 25-21 on Thursday. It was the first time Centreville had played a match in quite a while.

"White Pigeon always plays us well and tonight was no different," Centreville coach Deric Mostrom said. "One area I felt strong tonight was our defense. We have a strong defensive system and after making some adjustments to the way White Pigeon was playing in the first set, we definitely made it harder for them to score."

Mara Webb scored seven kills with five digs, Mary Stears recorded six kills while August Blair added four. Riley Buchner had a team-high 18 digs while Drew Alexander recorded 13.

White Pigeon had five kills from Elle McBride, she recorded 11 digs as well. Maddi Smallwood recorded a team-high 17 digs while Sadie McDaniel posted four kills. Kenlee Schrader had two kills and passed out 14 assists with six digs.

Burr Oak beats Pittsford

The Burr Oak volleyball team swept Pittsford on Thursday, winning 25-21, 25-14 and 25-15.

Braylyn Hernandez passed out 16 assists on the night with six aces and 11 digs, Sarah Hirschy posted a team-high nine kills with eight digs. Brooklynn Root logged two kills with three aces, Cristal Hernandez finished with three kills and 10 digs.

Makaila Whittington scored three kills, Amy Ledyard added nine digs for the match. Addison Eldridge scored four aces with four digs, Saryia Cornejo had two digs as well.

Constantine wins twice

The Constantine volleyball team picked up a pair of wins on Thursday evening. Those wins came over Allegan 25-17, 25-12 and Fennville 25-16, 25-12.

Jaedyn Herlein led with nine kills, Bella Cullifer logged eight kills. Jozee Buglione had a team-high 10 digs while Meah Evans passed out 15 assists, Alyssa Anthony passed out 13.

Evans also posted 11 aces on the night.

Mendon wins a pair

The Mendon volleyball team beat Tekonsha 25-11, 25-21 and Unio City 25-16, 24-26 and 15-12 on Wednesday.

In the win, both Alicyn Arevalo and Brianna Heitkamp finished with eight kills. Heitkamp totaled 17 digs with six aces for the evening.

Gracie Schultz finished with a team-high 16 kills with eight digs, Cienna Nightingale added nine kills with 20 digs. Jadyn Samson posted 24 digs, a team-high, with five aces as well.

Bronson beats Concord

The Bronson volleyball team knocked off Concord Wednesday in five sets. Bronson won the close match by winning the first 25-22, the third 25-17 and the fifth 15-10. Concord won the second at 25-21 and the fourth at 25-16.

Aubree Calloway logged 13 kills to lead Bronson, she added 16 digs in the match as well. Aleah Brackett recorded 12 kills with 12 digs, Payton Springstead posted 11 kills.

Brealyn Lasky handed out 34 assists with seven kills and 14 digs, Ciara Blankenship recorded 10 digs while Kennedy Clemens finished with eight.
