Farr rolls season-best 825 series at Crystal Lanes. See other high rollers

For the seventh time this season the 800 barrier has been broken at Crystal Lanes. And this time it was done by the head honcho and it turned out to be the best score of the season.

It’s been quite a run for Al Farr since we’ve turned over the calendar from 2023 to 2024. A run of 700 after 700 was interrupted this week when Al kicked it up a notch and broke into the 800 territory.

This strike throwing show began and ended with scores of 268. In between those two games, Al powered a 289 middle game to finish the night with an 825 series in the Gary Cortright Memorial Mixed League. And it’s the best score of the season. Maybe we better add — so far.

Runner-up honors for the week came out of the Hatfield Real Estate Men’s League and off the right hand of Nick Dobson. He opened the session with a 287 game and then added scores of 227 and 248 for a 762 set. In the same league, Al Farr polished off a 748 series and Bob Putman highlighted a 725 series with a 279 game.

In the Tire World of Corning Men’s League, Mike Brewster was the top dog with a 725 series while you know who wasn’t Farr behind with a 722 total. Ryan Tong rode a 279 lead-off game to a 721 series while Jason Huntley carded a 717 set and JR Fleming notched 700 on the button. Jason then added a 761 series, that included a 276 game, in the Sun Legends Mixed League where Scott Doan posted a 703 set.

Two other leagues had five bowlers over the 700 mark. Aaron Hamilton paced the Joey’s Contracting Mixed League with a 732 series while Al Farr (yeah, that guy again) was right on his heels with a 728 that featured a 279 game. Tim DeGraw also rolled a 279 single on his way to a 719 set while Mark Hughson Jr. and Bruce Stanton each rolled a 703 series.

In other men’s action, Eric Davies paced the Atlas Pizzeria Mixed League with a 736 that featured a 278 game, while Michael Hoffman-Bellucci rolled a 711 series in the Jubilee Foods Mixed League and Mike Bartholff topped the Addison Men’s League with a 702 series.

Bain's 680 tops ladies leagues

Scoring honors for the ladies this week came out of the Atlas Pizzeria Mixed League. Gwen Bain got off to a hot start and just kept it going all night long. After opening with a 232 game, Gwen tacked on scores of 225 and 223 for a 680 series. In that same league, Heather Farr earned the weekly runner-up honors when she capped a 665 series with a 255 game.

Anita Gennosa and Deon Frost both turned in the 600 daily double this week. And they did it in the same leagues. Anita led the ladies in the Joey’s League with a 648 set that included a 255 game while Deon countered with a 620 series.

Moving to the Giardina Building & Remodeling Ladies League, Deon Frost got a share of the top spot with a three-deuce 623 series. Annie Gross grabbed the other half of that league honor when she tossed her own three-deuce 623 series. In the same league, Anita Gennosa carded a 610 series while Cheryl Rice posted a 607 total.

In other ladies saction, Hailey Blencowe kept her run of sixes going in the Savona Storage Ladies League with a 613 series.

Stermer leads seniors

For the umpteenth time this season, John Stermer has found himself at the top of the senior scoring ladder. John smashed a 721 series in the Chilson-Wilcox Senior Men’s League. He surrounded a 279 middle game with scores of 214 and 228. He had company in the 700 section this week. Al Farr, in his role as a substitute, rolled games of 212, 236 and 258 for a 706 series. Shocker, huh?

There were also seven other fellows at the 600 mark or better in the C-W League. Judd McAtee led this parade with a 639 set while Bruce Stanton rolled a 631 and Jerry Keefer notched a 627 series. One pin behind Jerry was Dan VanArtsdalen’s 626 and Mike Dunn with a 624. Mike Hughson came away with a 611 set and Tim DeGraw carded six on the nose.

In other senior action, a trio of guys went over six in the Striking Seniors Mixed League. Larry Horton led the way with a 644 set while Rich Granger rolled a 627 and Gary Gustin capped a 608 series with a 256 game. Mike Hughson paced the Go-Getters Mixed League with a 621 and Ken Mattison joined him with a 618. Bill Sullivan registered the only other senior six with a 602 set to pace the Sunshiners Mixed League.

Three juniors reach 700

A trio of juniors took advantage of having an extra league other than the junior leagues on Saturday mornings to notch some 700s. Camryn Stefanini, Cameron Kennedy and Peyton Nelson all topped 700 in the Spring Junior/Adult Mixed League. Camryn fired a 268 single on his way to a 742 series while Cameron capped a 725 set with a 258 game and Peyton’s 723 series featured a 257 game.
