Fantasy Baseball: What you need to know from Tuesday's MLB action

Fantasy baseball analyst Dalton Del Don runs down everything to know from Tuesday night's games.

Need-to-know notes from Tuesday

• Julio Rodríguez has recorded a homer or steal in six of the past seven games and recently became the fastest player (81 games) to reach 15+ homers and 20+ stolen bases in MLB history. After a rough first month, the 21-year-old has hit .300 with 15 homers and 12 steals over 62 games; he’s among only a handful of players in the 90th percentile or higher in both barrel rate and sprint speed.

The only question remaining regarding Rodríguez is if he’ll go No. 1 in fantasy drafts next year.

• Alex Kirilloff swatted two homers Tuesday and is batting .306 with 17 RBI over 17 games since returning from the IL. If he’s truly over his wrist issues, the former first-round pick is plenty capable of helping fantasy managers over the rest of the season. Kirilloff had 10 homers and posted a whopping 193 wRC+ over 35 games in Triple-A this season and remains available in more than two-thirds of Yahoo leagues.

• Max Scherzer made a triumphant return Tuesday, recording an 11:0 K:BB ratio over six scoreless innings while pitching in the second-best hitter’s park in baseball. He averaged a full 1.0 mph more (94.6) on his fastball compared to his season mark while producing a 44 CSW percent. Scherzer should be valued as easily a top-10 fantasy player while healthy.

• Nick Lodolo also returned during the same game Tuesday, as the rookie had missed the previous two-plus months with a back injury. The former top-10 pick impressed while striking out eight and inducing 15 swing and misses over 4.2 shutout innings against one of the better offenses in the National League. Lodolo pitches in one of the best hitter’s parks and for one of the worst teams, but he’s worth adding in deeper fantasy leagues anyway given his strikeout potential. Lodolo is up to 27 Ks over his first 19.1 big league innings and is available in 80% of Yahoo leagues.

• Remember when Chase Field played as one of the league’s best hitter’s parks? No park has been tougher to hit a home run than Arizona this season, especially for left-handed batters. There’s plenty to like about Alek Thomas, but he currently sports one of MLB’s lowest launch angles, so he has a couple of obstacles going against his power potential right now.

• Darick Hall had three hits Tuesday while continuing to bat cleanup in Philadelphia replacing Bryce Harper. The underrated (and old) prospect has yet to take a walk, but he’s sporting a 183 wRC+ after his first week in the majors and is one of a handful of widely available players who should be added to your fantasy team.

• Esteury Ruiz is batting .346 with a 1.065 OPS across Double and Triple-A this season, with 13 homers and a staggering 56 steals over 72 games. The former prospect appears to have figured something out (he sports a 13.7 BB% and a 16.2 K% in Triple-A), and that SB upside makes his fantasy potential through the roof should San Diego give him a chance at some point this season. Ruiz is rostered in 14% of Yahoo leagues, but he’d be worth 100% of your FAAB if called up for a regular role.

• Brusdar Graterol closed Tuesday’s win, but Craig Kimbrel received late good news on the CT scan on his right scapula. Graterol has pitched well and would suddenly have a ton of fantasy value should Kimbrel ever miss time or continue to falter, as the Dodgers provided the third-most save opportunities last season and currently have the most wins in the National League. But Kimbrel remains LA's closer for now.
