Exeter's Lauren Roeder named to All-New England girls soccer team, one of six from NH

EXETER — The United Soccer Coaches All-New England girls high school soccer team, 66 members in total, was recently announced, and Exeter High School junior standout Lauren Roeder was one of six New Hampshire players to be selected.

"I'm super excited, I'm really proud of myself," Roeder said.

Exeter head coach Meg Young informed Roeder of the honor during the team's end-of-year banquet.

"I was really happy that I accomplished that goal," Roeder said. "Super happy."

Exeter's Lauren Roeder, seen here earlier in the season, scored two goals including the game-winner in overtime in Sunday's 3-2 Division I quarterfinal win over Bishop Guertin in Nashua.

The other five New Hampshire girls, all seniors, to make the team included Bow's Sidney Roberge, Milford's Alina St. George, Bishop Guertin's Martha Lord, Timberlane's Leah Morrier and Pelham's Ashlyn Walsh.

"I think it's a great honor for her," Young said. "It's certainly well-deserved. She has been one of the top players in Division I for the past two seasons. So now to be recognized as one of the top players in (New England) really says a lot about the progress she has made. It's a credit to her and the hard work she's put in. I'm really looking forward to having her back for another season and seeing how she progresses next season. It seems like every year, she just gets better and better."

Exeter High School junior Lauren Roeder had 30 goals and 12 assists this season, earning her a spot on the All-New England girls socccer team.

Roeder was huge in Exeter's success this season, guiding the Blue Hawks to a 13-3 regular season record. The Blue Hawks advanced to the Division I semifinals, falling to Timberlane, 2-1. In the season-ending loss, Roeder scored the lone Exeter goal in the first half, and was a few inches from connecting on the game-tying goal late in regulation.

Roeder, during the week of Sept. 25-30, had a three-goal, one assist performance in a 5-0 win over Dover and added another goal in a 2-1 win over Nashua South. Those performances earned Roeder the Seacoast Media Group Girls Athlete of the Week honors.

Roeder, who had 30 goals and 12 assists this year, has made the Division I all-state team the past two years. She said making the all-New England team was one of her goals coming into this past season.

"I definitely wanted to kind of push myself a little harder this year, and get to that," she said.

Roeder said "it feels amazing" to be one of six girls from New Hampshire to be selected All-New England.

"I know a lot of people obviously don't get the opportunity to receive that award, so I was definitely very humble about it," Roeder said. "I worked hard. I'm super proud of myself and I'm definitely not taking it lightly."
