Ex-Louisville star Donovan Mitchell is an NBA All-Star again. How he did it for fifth time

Former Louisville basketball star Donovan Mitchell was selected as a reserve for the 2024 NBA All-Star Game on Thursday.

After starting his career with the Utah Jazz, Mitchell is in his second year with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He is averaging 28.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game.

This is Mitchell's fifth All-Star selection, and he is the ninth Cavalier to be selected multiple times.

Here are some highlights from the first half of Mitchell's season:

  • Mitchell became the fastest player in NBA history to reach 11,000 points and make 1,200 3-pointers (443 games) in a career.

  • Mitchell has four 40-point games and 15 games in which he eclipsed 30 points.

  • He is averaging a career high in steals (1.9) and is second in the NBA behind former Kentucky star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (2.2).

  • One of Mitchell's best games was in a 128-121 win against the Pistons on Wednesday; he had 45 points, six rebounds, eight assists and two steals.

  • He also had 45 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and four steals in the Cavs' 111-102 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Jan. 11 in Paris.

  • Mitchell was named Eastern Conference Player of the Month for January. He led the Cavs to an 11-2 record. Cleveland is currently the fourth seed in the East.

The 73rd NBA All-Star Game is at 8 p.m. Feb. 18 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
