This ex-Bears player is now a high school football coach in Chicago. He'll debut in Pekin

A former Chicago Bears great will be making his high school football coaching debut in Pekin this August.

Robbie Gould has been hired as the new football coach at Rolling Meadows, according to a Chicago Sun-Times report on Friday. The former Bears and San Francisco 49ers kicker retired from the NFL after 18 seasons on Dec. 7, 2023, as the league’s 10th all-time leading scorer.

Rolling Meadows is scheduled to open its season on Aug. 30, 2024, at Memorial Stadium in Pekin. The Mustangs went 2-7 last season, including a 19-7 home loss to Pekin in Week 1. Pekin is coming off a 4-5 season in 2023, winning its final three games under coach Doug Nutter.

Gould, 41, is no stranger to central Illinois. He and other members of the Bears visited Washington and other parts of the area when a tornado struck in November 2013. He replaces Sam Baker, who coached at Rolling Meadows for four seasons.

Rolling Meadows is a Class 7A program that plays in the Mid-Suburban League. It last made the playoffs in 2022.

Gould is one of at least four former Chicago Bears players who now are head coaches at Illinois high schools, according to Steve Soucie of Shaw Media's Friday Night Drive. Gould joins Jason McKie (Mundelein Carmel), Kaseem Sinceno (Chicago Heights Bloom) and Jordan Lynch (Chicago Mount Carmel).
