Follow everyone from Indiana in the NCAA volleyball tournament

Roncalli grad Emma Halter and the fifth-seeded Texas Longhorns will defend their national championship Sunday afternoon against the top-seeded Nebraska Cornhuskers (3 p.m., ABC).

A sophomore libero, Halter recorded 19 digs, seven assists and two aces in Thursday's 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-13, 25-16) win over No. 2 Wisconsin. She enters the season's final match with 432 digs, 135 assists and 38 errors over 111 sets played (31 matches). She's been charged with just 30 reception errors.

Halter was among the state's best at Roncalli, accumulating 2,984 digs and 187 aces over four high school seasons, with a regional championship her senior year.

Texas' Final Four victory came at the expense of another Indiana native. Center Grove graduate MJ Hammill was a senior setter for Wisconsin. She recorded 19 assists in her final collegiate volleyball match, leaving her with 1,112 for her career. An Under Armour All-American and three-time first team all-state honoree in high school, the 6-2 standout also picked up 474 digs, 61 assists and four kills over her four seasons. She was a member of the Badgers' 2021 national championship team.

"For me, it's just so much gratitude," Hammill told UWBadgers.com. "I look back and there really is no regrets, which is the way that I want to be leaving the sport. I feel like the luckiest girl that I've gotten to surround myself with these people for the past four years. You know, not the way we wanted to end it, but gave it everything that we had."

Here's how the other Indiana natives fared during this year's NCAA Tournament.

Texas

Emma Halter, Roncalli

First round: Halter and the defending national champion Longhorns took out Texas A&M, 3-1 (21-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-20). The sophomore led fifth-seeded Texas with 14 digs, four assists and an ace.

Second round: Halter notched a career-high four service aces, and finished the Horns' second-round sweep of SMU (25-16, 25-14, 25-17) with 10 digs and three assists.

Sweet 16: The defending national champs were pushed to the brink, but outlasted third-seeded Tennessee in five sets (25-19, 20-25, 23-25, 26-24, 16-14). For her part, Halter picked up 20 digs and five assists across five sets.

Elite Eight: The Longhorns are onto the Final Four for the 15th time in program history after taking out Stanford, 3-1 (25-16, 15-25, 25-19, 25-22). Halter dug out 13 shots and recorded an assist across four sets. She's posted double-digit digs in 10 consecutive matches.

Wisconsin

MJ Hammill, Center Grove

First round: Hammill, a senior setter, registered a team-high 25 assists and five digs in the top-seeded Badgers' first-round sweep of Jackson State (25-18, 25-9, 25-18).

Second round: The setter recorded a season-high 26 assists and 12 digs in a 3-0 win over Miami (25-23, 25-15, 25-17).

Sweet 16: Hammill enjoyed a 10-serve run that secured a 20-8 third-set lead for the Badgers and set them on course for a 3-1 (25-11, 28-30, 25-12, 25-18) win over No. 5 Penn State. She finished the match with 20 assists and 14 digs for her ninth double-double of the year.

Elite Eight: Hammill helped the Badgers punch their ticket to the Final Four, recording 26 assists and an ace in a four-set (25-22, 25-22, 25-27, 25-18) victory over No. 6 Oregon. The senior setter heads to Tampa Bay with 545 assists across 106 sets this season.

Louisville

Cara Cresse, FW Blackhawk

First round: Cresse hit .500 and logged a career-best 13 kills against Wright State. She also scored five blocks in the three-set sweep.

Second round: The redshirt sophomore middle blocker shined on the attack once more, registering nine kills with a .538 hitting percentage, plus three blocks.

Sweet 16: The second-seeded Cardinals racked up 69 kills and hit .277 in a dramatic 25-21, 14-25, 25-23, 24-26, 15-8 victory over No. 3 Creighton on Thursday. Cresse accounted for 12 of those kills, and added an ace and three blocks. Louisville advances to the Elite Eight for a third consecutive season.

Elite Eight: An All-Region Tournament pick, Cresse logged nine kills, five blocks and an ace in the Cardinals five-set loss to top-seeded Pittsburgh. The redshirt sophomore middle blocker finished the season with 111 total blocks, 264 kills, 17 aces and 39 digs.

Ceci Rush, Providence

First round: Rush logged a dig in her three sets played in No. 2 Louisville's 25-18, 25-20, 25-20 win over Wright State.

Second round: The senior defensive specialist recorded an ace and an assist over three sets in Louisville's 26-24, 25-18, 25-22 win over Western Michigan.

Sweet 16: Rush appeared in four sets for the Cardinals. She came off the bench and recorded an ace in the fifth set, forcing a Creighton timeout with Louisville ahead 9-4.

Elite Eight: Rush appeared in two sets and registered a dig vs. the Panthers. The senior libero/defensive specialist posted 11 digs and four aces. She totaled 47 digs across four seasons at Louisville.

Molly Urban, Martinsville

The freshman libero/defensive specialist did appear in a match for the Cardinals this season.

Stanford

Caitie Baird, Perry Meridian

First round: The redshirt senior led the top-seeded Cardinal to a 25-21, 25-12, 25-15 sweep of Fresno State on Friday, hitting a carer-best .591, with a match-leading 15 kills on 22 swings. She also tallied nine digs, a block and an ace.

Second round: Baird logged 16 kills and a block, helping Stanford secure a 25-15, 25-20, 22-25, 22-25, 15-7 victory over No. 8-seed Houston. The RS senior hit .412 and also had five digs and three assists.

Sweet 16: Baird helped the Cardinal rally for a 22-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-21 victory over No. 5-seed Arizona State, posting 10 kills and a season-high 17 digs for her second double-double of the year. She also logged three blocks and three aces.

Elite Eight: The top-seeded Cardinal fell to No. 2-seed Texas in four sets on Saturday. Baird contributed 14 kills, four digs and a couple blocks. The former Falcon set down 347 kills and hit .283 in her final collegiate season. She also tallied 33 assists, 37 aces, 62 blocks and 195 digs. A four-time all-conference pick and two-time All-American, Baird totaled 1,351 career kills 106 aces, 87 assists, 219 blocks and 762 digs. She won a national championship in 2019.

Kentucky

Haley Melby, Munster

The sophomore outside hitter did not appear in a match this season. Melby logged 48 sets across 18 matches as a freshman with one start, picking up 86 kills, 17.5 blocks and 16 digs. The Wildcats beat Wofford and Baylor to reach the Sweet 16, where it dropped a five-set decision vs. Arkansas.

Purdue

Emily Brown, McCutcheon

First round: The senior recorded an ace in her one set played.

Second round: Brown participated in all four sets of a four-set win vs. Miami (25-21, 25-23, 24-26, 26-24).

Sweet 16: Brown recorded an assist and two digs across two sets in the Boilermakers' 3-0 loss to Oregon in the regional semifinal. The senior DS appeared in 30 matches this season, logging 34 digs, seven assists and a couple aces. She has 199 digs in two seasons at Purdue.

Chloe Chicoine, McCutcheon

First round: The first team all-Big Ten honoree continued her strong freshman campaign, registering 15 kills (.448 hit%), two aces, two assists and nine digs in the third-seeded Boilermakers' 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-12) win over Fairfield.

Second round: Chicoine registered 15 kills and hit .244 with a couple aces, a solo block and eight digs.

Sweet 16: Chicoine put down 10 kills on 32 swings to  go with three assists, an ace and five digs. The all-conference honoree racked up 358 kills and hit .263 in her debut season, rounding out her line with 28 aes, 208 digs and 22 total blocks.

Raven Colvin, Heritage Christian

First round: One of the team's three first team all-conference picks, Colvin registered six kills, four blocks and three digs in the opening round.

Second round: Colvin totaled 13 kills plus four blocks. She registered the go-ahead kill in the second set, breaking a 23-23 tie.

Sweet 16: Colvin picked up flour kills on seven swings with a solo block and a block assist. The junior totaled a career-high 269 kills (.280 hit%) and 167 blocks this season, plus 26 aces, 61 digs and 11 assists. She has 705 kills for her career.

Ali Hornung, Providence

First round: Hornung clocked two aces, an assist and two digs over three sets played vs. Fairfield.

Second round: Hornung logged 17 digs over four sets.

Sweet 16: Hornung scored four digs in three sets vs. Oregon. She served up 15 aces and dug out 277 shots over 114 sets played this season, and enters her senior year with 612 career digs.

Eva Hudson, Bishop Dwenger

First round: A unanimous first team All-Big Ten pick, Hudson scored a team-high 12 kills with a .556 hitting percentage, plus three digs in Purdue's first-round victory.

Second round: The Dwenger grad challenged her career-high with 27 kills on a career-high 73 attacks – three shy of tying the program record. She also posted two aces and eight digs.

Sweet 16: Hudson capped her season with a team-high 12 kills vs. the second-seeded Ducks. She also logged a block and four digs. The 6-1 sophomore finished the year with 560 kills (hit .260), 14 aces, 55 total blocks and 255 digs, and will enter 2024 with 1,074 career kills.

Emily Rastovski, Morgan Township

The redshirt sophomore outside hitter appeared in seven matches (15 sets), tallying 10 kills, seven blocks and four digs. She played in 10 sets over the course of eight matches with one start last season as a redshirt freshman.

Maddie Schermerhorn, West Noble

First round: The graduate student registered 13 digs, an ace and six assists over three sets played.

Second round: Schermerhorn broke her own school record for digs in an NCAA tournament match with 25 against the Canes. The fifth-year libero clinched the victory with an ace, her second of the match. She also had five assists.

Sweet 16: The grad student racked up 16 total digs in her final collegiate match. Her 570 digs this season were third-most in program history (one shy of second-most), while her 1,461 career digs rank as fifth-most all-time.

Rachel Williams, West Lafayette

The freshman defensive specialist did not appear in any matches this season.

Dayton

Lexie Almodovar, Noblesville

First round: A redshirt junior, Almodovar picked up a match-high 19 kills, plus two aces and 17 digs in the 5th-seeded Flyers' 3-2 (26-28, 26-24, 20-25, 25-14, 15-11) win over Pepperdine. It was her 12th double-double of the season. The match lasted two hours and 43 minutes.

Second round: Almodovar recorded her 13th double-double of the year with 11 kills and 15 digs in a 3-1 loss to No. 10 Washington State. The outside hitter/libero was tabbed A-10 Player of the Year, and finished the season with 526 kills (1,461 career) on a .261 hitting%, 54 aces, 36 assists, 313 digs (929 career) and 50 total blocks (140 career). Dayton finished the season 32-3, which included a program-record 27-match win streak.

Brooke Smith, Leo

The redshirt junior hitter appeared in 25 matches (39 sets), logging 46 kills with a .233 hit%. She also tallied four assists, 23 digs and nine total blocks.

Kansas

Raegan Burns, McCutcheon

First round: A Big 12 All-Rookie honoree, the freshman libero collected eight digs, an ace and two assists in the No. 4 Jayhawks' 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 28-26) win over Omaha.

Second round: The Jayhakws went the distance vs. No. 5 Penn State, but fell in five sets, 20-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-13, 13-15. Burns led the team with 14 digs in the finale, and rounded out her line with an ace and an asssit. She had just one reception error on 11 tries. The libero finished her debut campaign with 360 digs, 13 aces, 111 aces and just 14 reception errors.

Minnesota

Kylie Murr, Yorktown

First round: Murr led the way with 17 digs in a 25-17, 25-14, 25-23 sweep of Utah State, her 29th straight match with 10-plus digs.

Second round: Murr led the Gophers in digs once again, logging 16 in a three-set loss to Creighton. She was the only Big Ten player to record 10-plus blocks in every match this season, and ended her college career with 2,407 digs (second-most all-time in Big Ten history). Murr was a first team All-Big Ten pick.

Melani Shaffmaster, New Castle

First round: The senior setter recorded 19 assists, two service aces, a couple blocks, eight digs and four kills (hit .333) in the Gophers' opening-round sweep of Utah State .

Second round: Shaffmaster picked up a team-high 26 assists in a 3-0 loss to host Creighton. She also logged 13 digs for her Big Ten-best 19th double-double of the year. She logged 939 assists this season, leaving her with 3,973 through four seasons. Shaffmaster also tallied 31 aces (104 career) and 104 kills (323 career).

Western Kentucky

Kenadee Coyle, Bloomington South

First round: Coyle picked up three kills and hit .429 over three sets with a block and a dig in the Hilltoppers' 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-23) win over Coastal Carolina.

Second round: Coyle notched five kills, a couple solo blocks and three digs in a three-set loss to No. 3 Tennessee. The junior finished the season with 234 kills (.344 hit%), 72 total blocks, 34 digs and five assists.

Gabby Weihe, Noblesville

First round: Weihie tallied a kill on her one swing Friday night, helping WKU win a NCAA Tournament match for the fifth consecutive season.

Second round: The true freshman did not play vs. the Vols. She appeared in 26 matches (73 sets) totaling 96 kills, 51 blocks (seven solo), 15 digs and three assists for the Hilltoppers this season.

Auburn

Sarah Morton, Munster: The sophomore libero registered 13 digs in the Tigers' opening-round loss to Western Michigan. She also picked up three assists. Morton finished the season with 316 digs (750 for her career), 12 aces and 82 assists.

Eastern Illinois

Emily Wilcox, Homestead: The senior middle blocker registered a couple kills over two sets in the Panthers' 3-0 loss to No. 6-seed Marquette. She totaled 49 kills, 19 blocks, nine digs and four aces over 31 sets this season. Wilcox has 166 career blocks and 312 career kills.

Fairfield

Kyla Berg, Hamilton Southeastern: The senior defensive specialist/libero was credited with nine digs, an ace and four assists in Fairfield's 3-0 loss to Purdue. The lone four-year Stag on the 2023 roster, Berg notched 384 digs, 83 assists and 20 aces over 102 sets. She has 1,178 digs, 223 assists and 70 aces for her career.

Florida Gulf Coast

Ella Chapman, Greensburg: The Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year recorded six kills and hit .417 with a block in FGCU's 3-0 loss to 4-seed Florida. The middle blocker from Greensburg finished her freshman season with 158 kills, 77 total blocks and four aces over 91 sets played.

Claire Ertel, Mt. Vernon: A junior defensive specialist, Ertel logged seven digs and three assists in the opening round vs. the Gators. She finishes the season with 203 digs, and 41 aces (122 sets played).

Courtney Glotzbach, Providence: The redshirt junior, who transferred from Jacksonville State prior to the season (2020 OVC Freshman of the Year), did not play vs. Florida. She finished the season with 118 kills, 61 digs and 25 blocks over 26 matches, but had not appeared in a match since Nov. 4.

Ava Smith, Park Tudor: Smith did not appear in any matches as a true freshman.

Georgia

Bailey Cox, New Castle: The junior became the 23rd member of Georgia's 1,000-dig club in the final set of a three-set loss to fifth-seeded Arizona State. Cox finished the match with 11 digs, leaving her with 298 for the season and 1,001 for her career. She also recorded 54 assists and 36 service aces.

Grand Canyon

Ellie Frey, FW Carroll: The freshman outside hitter did not play in the Lopes' opening-round loss to No. 4 Washington State. She logged 12 sets played, totaling six kills, three aces and a block.

Katherine Schmitt, SB Saint Joseph: Schmitt did not play vs. Washington State. The junior libero appeared in seven matches (eight sets) this season, collecting a pair of digs.

Jackson State

Naija Gadis, Brebeuf Jesuit: The freshman setter tallied a pair of aces, 12 assists, a kill and two digs vs. Wisconsin. Gadis finished the season with 534 assists, 124 digs, 26 aces and 41 kills.

South Alabama

Margo Hernandez, Fishers: The freshman setter did not play in the Jaguars' 3-1 loss to No. 5-seed Georgia Tech. She did not appear in any matches this season, but South Alabama's starting setter, Kailey Keeble, is a fifth-year senior.

Texas A&M

Molly Brown, Northridge: The redshirt junior did not play vs. the Longhorns. Brown finished the season with 29 blocks, 15 kills, four aces and three assists over 26 sets played.

Western Michigan

Maddie Kmetz, Andrean: Kmetz did not appear in any matches this season, according to the WMU athletics site. The Broncos upset No. 7 Auburn in the first round, then lost to Louisville in three sets.

Wofford

Abbey Richman, Brebeuf Jesuit: Richman, a senior defensive specialist/libero, collected three digs in a three-set loss at second-seeded Kentucky. She totaled a career-high 428 digs and 79 aces over 110 sets this season, leaving her with 1,250 digs and 218 aces through her four-year career.

Wright State

Taylor Bransfield, Bishop Luers: The senior middle blocker did not appear in any matches this season, per the Wright State athletics site.

Jenny Morey, Yorktown: The junior defensive specialist notched nine digs, an ace and two assists in Wright State's four-set loss to Louisville. She finished the season with 278 digs, 40 aces and 41 assists.

Yale

Bonnie Bostic, Carmel: The outside hitter did not play in Yale's 3-1 loss to 5th-seeded Penn State, but appeared in nine matches as a senior, collecting 31 kills, five digs and three blocks. She finished has 251 kills, six assists, two aces, 27 blocks and 75 digs through four seasons.
