Eustis High School softball team scores late to secure 4A state championship

CLERMONT — The Eustis High School Panthers capped off a nail-biter of a game on Thursday with a 1-0 win over the Baker County Wildcats in the 4A State Softball Championships at Legends Way in Clermont.

Eustis recorded two of its five hits in the bottom of the seventh, the clincher a midfield hit by Kendall Kemp that allowed pinch runner Kaylen Bublitz to run home.

The game was a battle between pitchers with Eustis’ Skyler Cloud allowing just three hits while striking out four Wildcats.

The Panthers finished the season with a 26-2 record.

Members of the Eustis championship team include Skyler Scott, Skyler Cloud, Adrianna Covino, Chloe Zimmerman, Taylor Goff, Emmy Luke, Ciara Maple, Katie Short, Brooklyn Powhida, Dalilah Taylor, Carson Roden, Brooke Mansfield, Kailey Walker, Kendall Kemp, Kaylen Bublitz, Mackenzie Tackett, Lillie Smith, Jensen Luke, Brooklynn Mason, Gabby Hiles and Taryne Thomas.
