Team previews

Denmark (+2800 to win the Euros)

The Danes have been one of the hottest teams on the betting market as their odds have moved down from opening at +8000. Casual fans will recognize Leicester City goalie Kasper Schmeichel and Inter Milan midfielder Christian Erikson while the team is solid across the board. With Russia unspectacular and Finland one of the tournament’s biggest long shots, Denmark should be penciled in for a round of 16 game against Italy.

Best bet

Belgium to win group and Denmark to finish second (+200)

Finland (+20000)

It’s the Fins’ first time at the Euros and their odds reflect their long-shot status. Norwich City striker Teemu Pukki provides the goals for Finland; he had 10 of the team’s 16 goals during qualifying. Two of Finland’s matches are effectively road contests; Finland plays Denmark in Copenhagen and plays Russia in St. Petersburg. That’s not a great draw.

Best bet

Over 1.5 goals in the group stage (-190)

Belgium (+550)

Will Kevin De Bruyne be able to play during the tournament for Belgium? That’s the huge question after he sustained facial fractures in Manchester City’s loss to Chelsea in the Champions League final. Belgium shouldn’t need him in the group stage; there’s plenty of talent to win the group without one of the most dynamic attacking midfielders in the world. But winning the entire tournament is a huge ask without him; and it’s a bit puzzling why Belgium’s odds have been bet down to +550 with De Bruyne’s status not a guarantee and coach Roberto Martinez on record as saying De Bruyne is likely to miss at least the opener.

Best bet

Under 5.5 goals in the group stage (+100)

Russia (+8000)

Russia was paired with Belgium in Group I during qualifying and went 8-2 through 10 games. Those two losses were both to Belgium. But the eight wins came against Scotland, Cyprus, Kazakhstan and San Marino — a team that scored one goal in 10 games. Artem Dzyuba is the focal point of Russia’s attack as Russia looks to win its first game in the Euros since 2012.

Best bet

Russia will not qualify for the knockout stage (+165)
