ESPN’s Tony Kornheiser calls Tua Tagovailoa’s comments about critics ‘insane’
After over a year of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa receiving criticism about his arm strength, highlighted by a recent social media post from the team account that went viral, the Alabama product hit back at his critics following a minicamp session.
Tagovailoa shot back at the “Twitter warriors” who hadn’t seen full practices and were taking exception with the one throw that was highlighted on video.
While many were happy to see the quarterback stick up for himself, ESPN’s Tony Kornheiser had a different take.
On an episode of “Pardon the Interruption,” Kornheiser says Tagovailoa’s comments were “insane.”
“He called out, and I want to get the word correct, the ‘Twitter warriors,'” Kornheiser said. “You can’t do that. You can’t say ‘I understand you’re out there on social media and you’re crushing me so stick it.’ No. Because more people will jump on that, and now, every single time he short arms a pass more people will say he shouldn’t have a job, and the media in Miami will publish this stuff. It’s a fight you can’t win. It’s insane.”
In a sense, Kornheiser has a point because people on social media are ruthless, and once they know they’ve struck a nerve, they’ll go at it twice as hard. However, Tagovailoa has been dealing with the criticism for at least a year now, and this is the first time he’s responded. It has to get to you eventually. He’s human.
