ESPN provides latest update on Kirk Cousins re-signing with Vikings

The biggest questions this offseason in the National Football League reside at TCO Performance Center. Will the Minnesota Vikings re-sign quarterback Kirk Cousins? This decision will cause a ripple effect across the entire league.

The latest rumblings surrounding Cousins come from ESPN’s Dan Graziano. He and Jeremy Fowler compiled a notebook of tidbits they heard in Las Vegas at Radio Row for Super Bowl LVIII.

Kirk Cousins’ impending free agency is a story at this year’s Super Bowl, much like it was six years ago when the big game was in Minneapolis. The Minnesota Vikings are working to see if they can keep their 35-year-old quarterback — who is coming off an Achilles tear — and they’d like to have an answer in the next few weeks so they can plan accordingly.

Minnesota’s other business — most prominently a potential new deal for defensive end Danielle Hunter before he hits the market — is on hold until it figures out what’s going on with Cousins.

There isn’t a ton of new information here but the news of a Cousins deal is a new one for Danielle Hunter being on hold. That doesn’t mean that the Vikings will be waiting until the final second with Hunter. By the end of the NFL Scouting Combine, there should be a real sense of whether the Vikings and Cousins will be able to get a deal done.

Why the Scouting Combine? Teams and agents have a lot of meaningful conversations about players and contract values. This is likely where the Vikings will have some important in-depth conversations with Cousins’ agent Mike McCartney.

Will they re-sign Cousins? Only time will tell and it could be a long few weeks.
