ESPN predicts where Bo Nix is most likely to be selected in the 2024 NFL Draft
Oregon Ducks quarterback Bo Nix was one of the more prominent names at the annual Reese’s Senior Bowl this past week in Alabama, and he did well, displaying his strengths and improving his NFL draft stock.
While he didn’t see substantial time in the Senior Bowl on Saturday, Nix played well, completing four of his five passes with one touchdown. Going into the week, most projections had the former Oregon QB and Heisman finalist likely to be drafted either late in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft or early in the second round. So how did his Senior Bowl performance change things?
According to ESPN’s Jeff Legwold, it didn’t alter his situation much. Nix is still projected to go as early as midway through the first round, but there is a chance he will fall to the middle or end of the second round as well, if not early in the third round.
Talent evaluators were in agreement that Nix found another level to his game at Oregon, where he threw 74 touchdown passes and just 10 interceptions over two seasons. The Nix they saw at Auburn wasn’t nearly as refined in meshing his physical tools and mobility into consistent, high-level production in the passing game.
That’s why execs see the first round as his ceiling. As one NFC South scout said: “It only takes one team to think he’s QB3 or QB4.”
If Caleb Williams (USC), Drake Maye (North Carolina) and Jayden Daniels (LSU) are the first three quarterbacks off the board — and each come off the board in the top eight picks — that could put Nix, (Michael) Penix and J.J. McCarthy (Michigan) in play sooner than some current execs’ grades indicate.
Legwold also explained that depending on how the medical results come back for Washington’s Penix, Nix’s draft selection could change. Should Penix test out well for all of his previous injuries, teams could choose to take him over the former Oregon QB.
Ultimately, ESPN predicts that Nix will end up being selected somewhere early on in the second round of the draft. We will see over the next couple of months as the predraft process continues whether or not Nix and improve that draft stock.
