Eric Scogin steps down as Bel Air HS football coach after 16 wins in last 2 years

Bel Air will need a new high school coach for the 2024 season as veteran Eric Scogin stepped down on Thursday.

Scogin took over the head job at Bel Air in 2019 and found great success in 2023 and 2024, winning eight games both seasons.

The 16 combined wins the past two years were the most in consecutive years since the 1985 and 86 seasons. The team's second-place finish this past season in District 1-5A Division 1 was the program's highest finish in district play since 1991.

Bel Air's signature win in 2023 was a 48-42 win against Parkland in district play.

"We accomplished a great deal and our kids worked hard to help the program achieve what we did," Scogin said. "I'm proud of our kids."

Other schools who have hired new football coaches for the 2024 season include Pebble Hills, Chapin, Irvin and Cathedral.
