Emee Dani, Connor Kunze voted the Ames Tribune's female and male Athletes of the Week

Gilbert girls track and field athlete Emee Dani and Nevada boys track and field athlete Connor Kunze were voted the Ames Tribune's female and male Athlete of the Week winners for the week of May 13-19.

Dani won female Athlete of the Week with 55% of the vote. She won a close vote over Ames girls golfer Macy Button, who received 44% of the vote.

Dani ran the 800-meter leg to lead the Gilbert girls to a 3A state championship in the distance medley relay at the state track and field meet.

She outlasted Sioux Center's Audrina Jones on the anchor leg to give Gilbert the win in 4:06.13. Dani also placed second individually in the 3000 with a time of 10:11.51.

Kunze won male Athlete of the Week with 59% of the vote. Ballard boys track and field athlete Chance Lande came in second with 36%.

Kunze placed sixth in the 3A open 100 at the state track and field meet.

He ran a 10.81 to place fifth during the prelims. He followed that up by crossing the finish line in 11.41 during the finals.
