Elkhart's Decker and Jellison shine at Princess Relays

Elkhart's Ava Decker and Brynlee Jellison came up with personal-best throws Friday at the Princess Relays at Rice Field.

Decker threw a personal-best 136.5.50 in the discus. That throw along with a 79-10.50 toss from Olivia Gutierrez gave the Lions the discus throw relay title.

Jellison had a personal best throw of 37-.50 in the shot put. That toss combined with Decker's throw of 35-11.50 gave the Lions a first place finish in the shot put relay.

Valparaiso won the meet with 109 points, with Warsaw second with a 72.5 total. Elkhart finished fifth with a 46.5 total.

The Vikings finished first in eight of the 14 events.

In softball action, Northridge took a pair from South Bend Riley, winning 6-5 and 7-2.

In the opener, the Raiders scred three runs in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win.

In the second game, junior Rielyn Goodwin had three hits, including a homer and drove in two for the Raiders. Winning pitcher Rachel Humbarger had two hits and stole two bases.

Chloe Davis had a huge game, as NorthWood topped Triton, 15-5.

Davis had four hits, including two homers and drove in five runs to pace the Panthers.

On Friday night, JT Tabor tossed a three-hitter to lead Northridge to a big conference win over Mishawaka.

Jack Urbanski drove in three runs for the Raiders.

In boys golf, Fairfeld came home second at the Wawasee Invitational at Maxwelton.

Brayden Miller shot a 76 to lead the Falcons, who trailed first place Columbia City, 330-337.

Elkhart came home seventh with a 367, led by Stephen Webb's 79.

In girls tennis, NorthWood won four of the five positions at the DeKalb Invitational and was crowned the tournament champions.

Tatum Evers (No. 2 singles), Gabriela Poblador (No. 3 singles), EmeryPorter/Kaydence Dumka (No. 1 doubles) and Maddy Birk/Maggie Steiner (No. 2 doubles) all placed first. Britton Jesse (No. 1 singles) came home as the runner-up.
