Elgton Jenkins and Packers reportedly agree to $74M 4-year extension, 2nd highest for an NFL guard

The Green Bay Packers signed offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins a four-year contract extension, the team announced Friday.

The offensive lineman's base deal is for $68 million, with a max value of up to $74 million. It includes a $24 million signing bonus and makes Jenkins the second highest-paid guard in the NFL, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The top earning guard is the Indianapolis Colts' Quenton Nelson, who brings in $20 million per year, per ESPN.

Jenkins' deal comes in the final year of his contract, just a year after he tore his ACL.

“It’s a great day for us, a great day for Elgton,” Packers head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters before Friday's practice. “Obviously he’s earned it and he does it the right way. It’s always fun as a coach to see guys that get rewarded for not only their performance but what they do in the locker room and the leadership he brings. I can’t say enough great things about him.”

Jenkins has played his entire career with the Packers since he was selected from Mississippi State in the second round of the 2019 draft.

The 26-year-old has started in 50 of 52 games; 17 of those starts happened in different positions on the line than his primary left tackle role. He has also started at left guard, right tackle and center.

“I don't think there's a position up front he can't play,” LaFleur said.

At left tackle, where he played most of last season, Jenkins' new extension places him among the top-10 highest paid.

The Packers also released a statement regarding the extension from general manager Brian Gutekunst.

"Since the moment he walked into the building, Elgton has been a core member of this franchise while displaying an uncommon versatility, unselfishness and toughness," he wrote. "He's a tremendous leader and teammate and he has earned everything that has come to him."
