Elgin wins own tournament in strong weekend for area high school wrestling

MARION — Elgin proved to be a stingy host as it won its own Elgin Classic wrestling tournament on Saturday.

The Comets scored 265 points in the 18-team pool event, edging Division I Toledo Whitmer's 252. Northmor was third with 243 and River Valley fifth with 188. Cardington was 15th.

The following wrestlers from the Marion area earned top-six places in their weight classes:

126: Elgin's Carson Thomas, sixth.

North Union at Bellefontaine

North Union was third out of 16 teams at a tournament in Bellefontaine. Winning a title for the Wildcats was Wyatt Stacklin, while Jaystin Beeney, Collin Welch and Broden O'Reilly all took second place.

Other placers were Bradley Cline (third), Brody Rote (fourth), Luke Brown, Noah Huddleston and Kory Ransome (fifth) and Kylynn Thompson and Jaxon Mabery (sixth).

Pleasant at Roughneck Duals

Pleasant went 4-6 at Findlay's Roughneck Duals, with four of their losses by three or fewer points.

Daxton Chase went 10-0 for the weekend for the Spartans, while Shawn Murphy, Sam Mentzer and Luke Flinchbaugh all were 8-2, and Landon O'Donnell was 7-3.

Highland second at its meet

Highland finished as the team runner-up at its Jeremy Ammons Kilted Klassic with nationally ranked Dublin Coffman taking the title.

Finishing second for the Scots were Konner Blaney at 106, Brendan Lester at 120, Cael Gilmore at 144 and Liam DeLaney at 150. Other placers were Brady Byler (third, 106), Rem Baker (fourth, 165), Ethan Taylor (fourth, 285), Kasey Clark (fifth, 126), Hunter Taylor (seventh, 190) and Jacob Wymer (eighth, 175).
