El Paso will send several athletes to UIL state track and field meet in Austin

El Paso will send four relay teams and eight individual athletes to the UIL state track and field meet May 11-13 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin. Here is a look at who qualified from regional meets on Friday and Saturday.

Class 6A

  • Luis Pastor, Coronado. Pastor will go to state in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters. He won the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:13.65 and won the 3,200 meters with a time of 9:05.01.

  • The Franklin boys 400 meter relay team earned the wild card for the state after finishing third with a time of 41.60 seconds. The team consists of Beau Sparks, Julian Mars, Gerald Williams and Jordan Morales. Overall the Franklin boys team finished fourth at the Region I-6A meet with 34 points.

Class 5A

  • Parkland's 800 relay team earned a wild card spot with a third-place finish in a time of 1:27.07. The team consisted of Joseph Gomez, Kaleb Martinez, Lincoln Jurado III and DJ Crest.

  • Seth Truax, Chapin. Truax qualified in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.04, which was good for second.

  • Morgan Little, Chapin. Little is going to state in two events, the long jump and 100 meters. Little was second in the long jump with a mark of 19 feet, 8 inches and won the 100 meters with a time of 11.59 seconds.

  • Chapin girls 400-meter relay and 800-meter relay. The two girls teams consist of Samahdi Foster, Caidence Johnson, Maliyah Pride and Little. Chapin was second in the 800 relay with a time of 1:39.12 and earned a wild card the 400 relay with a time of 47.13 seconds. As a team, the Chapin girls finished third with 52 points.

  • Ricardo Leyva, Horizon. Leyva won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 11 inches.

Class 4A

  • Christopher Moreno, San Elizario. Moreno won the 800 meters (1:54.37) and was second in the 1,600 meters (4:28.91).

  • Jose Guardado, Riverside. Guardado won the long jump with a mark of 22 feet, 9 inches.

  • Angel Munoz, Riverside. Munoz was second in the long jump with a time of 22 feet, 6.5 inches.

Class 3A

  • Daniel Romero, Tornillo. Romero will go to state in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters, where he finished second in both events. He ran the 1,600 meters in 4:27.32 and the 3,200 meters in 9:37.48.
