El Paso players, teams to watch in bidistrict round of UIL softball playoffs

The UIL high school softbal playoffs start on Friday, here is a look at El Paso teams and players to watch in the bidistrict round.

Players to watch

  • Julie Muniz, Riverside. Muniz has been a force for the Rangers on offense with nine homers for the District 1-4A champion.

  • Keara Munoz, San Elizario. Munoz is hitting .527 at the plate and has struck out 129 batters as a pitcher.

  • Analy Trejo, Ysleta. Has driven in 49 runs this season.

  • Desirae Spearman, Hanks. The New Mexico State signee has struck out more than 500 batters in career and has 23 homers at the plate this season.

  • Christalynne Sepulveda, Americas. The UTEP signee has scored 49 runs, driven in 42 runs and hit 11 homers.

  • Gabriela DeAnda, Eastwood. Has been steady as leadoff batter, hitting better than .500 on season.

  • Grace Ponzio, Montwood. Has driven in 35 runs and is hitting .463.

  • Kris Corral, Socorro. Corral is hitting .643 and has nearly 30 extra-base hits.

  • Michelle Perez, Chapin. Perez is 17-4 in the circle with 142 strikeouts and is hitting .465 with 24 RBI.

  • Nevaeh Rodriguez, Del Valle. Was key to team's success on offense in helping team to second-place finish in District 2-5A.

  • Miranda Guillen, Eastwood. Has been a standout pitcher and batter for the District 1-6A champion Troopers.

  • Pia Velez, Montwood. Has been a key contributor as a pitcher and batter for the Rams.

  • Mia Bailey, Hanks. Has hit 12 homers and driven in 60 runs for the Knights.

  • Zoe O'Hara, Americas. The talented pitcher came up big late in season to help Trailblazers make the playoffs.

  • Judith Osuna, Hanks. Hitting .488 and has been a solid pitcher in circle for District 2-5A champions Knights.

Teams to watch

  • Hanks enters playoffs with 33-1 record, owns wins against Southlake Carroll, Odessa Permian and Chapin. Has veteran team, which could help in playoffs.

  • Eastwood won the District 1-6A title in tie with Montwood. The Troopers have been solid under coach Crystal Carrion.

  • Riverside has come a long way this season under coach Jade Rodriguez, a former UTEP and Americas High School standout, and that resulted in district title in Class 4A.

Fabens at Austin, 10 a.m. with third game to follow if needed

Americas at Odessa Permian, noon CDT with third game to follow if needed
