El Paso High boys cross country team finished 8th at UIL state cross country meet

The El Paso High boys cross country team finished eighth as a team on Friday at the Class 5A state cross country meet in Round Rock.

The Tigers finished with 206 points, 23 behind seventh-place Friendswood and sixth-place Argyle.

El Paso High was led by Miles Wesbrook, who finished in a time of 15 minutes, 48.0 seconds, which was good for 15th place overall and was eighth among runners who were part of the team scoring.

Other members of the state qualifying team were Leo Valenzuela, Lorenzo Shields, Aydan Lugo, Ulysses O'Rourke, Joaquin Moya and Justin Ontiveros.

The Tigers won the District 1-5A title and the Region I-5A title leading up to state.

On the girls side, Chapin placed 14th with 323 points.

Ava Dennis was the top finisher for the Huskies with a time of 19:50.9. She was 72nd overall and 43rd best in terms of runners who were part of the team scoring.

Other members of the state qualifying team from Chapin were Biviana Garcia, Jocelynne Diaz-Torres, Rebecca Duran, Abigail Sanchez and Ava Maldonado.

Chapin was making its first appearance at the state meet since 2008.
