East Stroudsburg South's Jaen Chatman reaches 1,000 career points against Parkland

EAST STROUDSBURG — Thursday was a milestone night for Jaen Chatman, as the junior guard became the newest member of the 1,000-point club at East Stroudsburg South High School.

"It means a lot," Chatman said after reaching the mark in a 57-32 loss to Parkland. "I've worked really hard to come this far, trusting my work day in and day out, trusting my craft and coaches. It's a great moment and experience."

Chatman came into the night needing 20 points to reach 1,000, and he had to do it against Davidson commit Nick Coval and Parkland. He had a tough stretch through the first three quarters during which he was the focus of the Trojan defense and scored only 10 points.

But Chatman, who played through cramps at the end of the game, immediately turned it up a notch in the final frame, reaching the needed 20 points on a dribble pull-up 3-pointer and cementing himself in school history.

He joins his stepbrother Jeremiah Anderson as 1,000-point scorers at South.

The Cavaliers are 6-5 after the loss to Parkland, and the majority of their remaining games are against teams with a winning record. But between Chatman, who's in the conversation for best player in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, and coach Shawn Munford, don't count out South to find themselves in the postseason.
