DWU volleyball picks up five-set road win over Dordt

Oct. 29—SIOUX CENTER, Iowa. — The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team rallied from 2-1 down for a five-set win over Dordt in a Great Plains Athletic Conference victory on Saturday at DeWitt Gymnasium.

Set scores were 23-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-21 and 15-12.

Tya Weideman had four consecutive points on serve to open the fifth set and DWU led 5-1 and then pulled away late after Dordt got to 13-12 with kills from Ady Dwight and Abby Brunsing.

Dwight posted 26 kills in the five-set win for the Tigers (19-13, 8-7 GPAC). Brunsing had 12 kills and Emily Dale added 10 kills and five total blocks, while Lizzie Tyler had seven kills and 14 digs. Kayleigh Hybertson had 49 set assists and 15 digs. Weideman had 35 digs with 20 from Callie Slagter and 16 digs from Carlee Laubach.

Dordt (4-18, 3-13 GPAC) had 15 kills from Tarren Spartz and 14 kills from Isabella Cumana but the Defenders finished the match hitting .134 as a team.

DWU closes the regular season at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at Jamestown. The match could serve as a preview of the GPAC tournament quarterfinals, as Jamestown is the No. 3 team in the conference standings and DWU stands at No. 6.
