Duke baseball dealt Virginia a dramatic series-opening loss in the Charlottesville Super Regional on Friday, 5-4. Game 2 is set for Saturday (noon, ESPN2). Game 3, if necessary, will be played Sunday.
Damon Lux hit a two-run homer in the third inning to give Duke (39-22) the early lead, but Virginia (48-13) scored three times in the sixth to take it back in Friday's game.
The Blue Devils ultimately won on a pair of RBIs from Tyler Albright and Luke Storm in the eighth inning, and freshman pitcher James Tallon came in to break Duke's single-season saves record (12) with a scoreless ninth.
"They just don't flinch," Duke coach Chris Pollard said after the opener. "They've been really good all year at taking a puch."
