DSH stand-out to continue softball career at home with Blue Hawks
Dec. 23—DICKINSON — The Dickinson State University Blue Hawks softball team has talent from all across the country, but it is always special when they welcome a Dickinson native into the Hawks nest.
Baylee Berg, a highly-skilled catcher and infield player from Dickinson, has committed to play for the Blue Hawks' softball team. Berg, who was part of the Dickinson 2021 state and 2022 WDA championship teams, signed her National Letter of Intent on Dec. 20, surrounded by her peers, coaches and family.
"I would like to thank all my coaches," Berg said. "I definitely couldn't have been here without them. They have alway pushed me and always talked to me. They have always told me, 'You can be this great player but you have to believe in yourself first."
The prep stand-out said she is excited to join Dickinson State and become part of their family-oriented culture and future successes.
The three-sport athlete has been a fan of the Blue Hawks since childhood.
"I have been able to watch these guys growing up and I know what I am going into," Berg said. "I think for me, especially, they focus on being a family, so I am excited to see how not only I grow as a player, but as a person in their program."
A family mentality will go a long way for Berg, who will be fully immersed in the college experience, from collegiate level softball to dormitory life. With eagerness, Berg said that she is excited to experience college and all of its endeavors.
DSU currently has two junior catchers on their roster, which could give Berg an opportunity to rise up the ranks early into her collegiate career. Whether on the field or on the bench, Berg's presence is valuable, as she is not a player who will shy away from hard work or team spirit.
"I like to be up on the bench and with everybody," Berg said. "I am just always pumped to be there and to be part of the team really."
A big plus to Berg is that she will be part of the second generation of players to play on the Championship Field at the new Sanford Sports Complex, which will host the NSAA conference tournament for its inaugural year this spring. Berg joins fellow Dickinson Midgets alumni in former teammate Hope Fath, who was a freshman at Dickinson State this year.
