Flour Bluff boys 1,600 relay voted Driscoll Children's Hospital Athlete of the Week

Authors of one of the most memorable moments at the UIL State Track Meet last week, the Flour Bluff boys 1,600 relay has been voted the Driscoll Children's Hospital Caller-Times High School Athlete of the Week for April 29-May 4.

The Hornets (Austin Villanueva, Owen Aggus, Elijah Gonzales, Zach DeWalt) capped their season with a bronze medal at the Class 5A UIL State Track meet, setting a new school record with a time of 3 minutes, 17.03 seconds.

The Hornets received 15,580 of the 29,667 votes cast, which was 52.5% of total votes.

Kingsville hurdler Jasiah Rivera was second with 7,263 votes.

Students can only be named Athlete of the Week one time per season, per sport, and athletes from one school cannot win more than three consecutive weeks.

Nominations are due each Monday by 5 p.m. and can be submitted through email at ctsports@caller.com, by messaging the Caller-Times through its Facebook page, or on Twitter @CallerSports.

Voting runs Tuesday through Thursday each week.
