It starts with third-year star Brandin Cooks, who’s just 22 years of age right now, but will be 23 in September. Willie Snead, one of the NFL’s pleasant surprises last season will be 24 years old this October. Rounding out the group is second-round pick Michael Thomas, who will be 22 this August.

Considering that Brees had Marques Colston, Jimmy Graham, Benjamin Watson and other veterans for years, the youth movement is definitely something that doesn’t come easy. But Brees has been impressed by the young receivers, according to the New Orleans Saints Advocate.

“I am not worried about the inexperience, if you are just talking about years and games played,” Brees said.

There shouldn’t be any reason to worry, as Cooks posted 84 catches for 1,138 yards and nine touchdowns, while Snead posted 69 catches for 984 yards and three touchdowns. So what reason is there really to panic?

Plus, Brees has an incredible track record of working with a plethora of receivers. Joe Horn, Colston, Graham, Robert Meachem, and now these young guys. Nobody has been able to work with so many weapons the way him and Peyton Manning have in their careers.

“I feel like the time on task between all of us is pretty significant when you are talking about the practice reps and the time that we spend away from this facility together,” Brees said. “I think they’re quick studies; they’re all hard-working guys that are very smart, intelligent and hungry.”

For the Saints, they can only hope the young guys keep developing, because he won’t play forever. But life will be a lot easier for Brees’ successor if the guys he’s throwing to get familiar with the playbook right away.
