Drake women's basketball earns second straight win, cruises over Southern Illinois

The Drake women's basketball team earned its second straight win and opened conference play with a bang on Saturday with a victory over Southern Illinois.

The Bulldogs (8-4, 1-0 MVC) got out to a hot start and never looked back in the 78-59 win in Carbondale, Illinois. Drake cruised out to a 21-12 lead at the end of the opening quarter, thanks to a 15-0 run. From that point on, Drake never really let Southern Illinois (5-6, 0-1 MVC) back into the game.

Shooting wasn't an issue for Drake all afternoon, with the team hitting 54% of their shots on the day and converting on 33% of their shots from beyond the arc. The Salukis shot 28% from the field on the day and 29% from deep.

Katie Dinnebier led the Bulldogs with 26 points on the afternoon but Grace Berg, who finished with 25, wasn't far behind. Two more players, Anna Miller (13 points) and Taylor McAulay (10 points) finished in double figures for Drake. Miller also notched a double-double, hauling in 12 boards.

Drake is back in action on Thursday when they welcome Indiana State (4-6) to the Knapp Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
