A double-overtime win against Rye lifts Yorktown in the lohud boys lacrosse rankings

There are several improving teams waiting to make a move into the top 10 and this is the right time of year to be making noticeable strides. Lakeland/Panas is stringing wins together in Class B. Scarsdale is again making noise in Class A.

The stakes are getting higher.

We're getting some quality matchups in the last week as teams prepare for what's coming next. Status is earned in the playoffs, which begin next week.

1. Pleasantville (12-2) — A string of walkovers against struggling league opponents has not been helpful, but the season finale against Somers might get the Panthers back into playoff mode. Previously: 1

2. Yorktown (9-4) — An injury to a versatile playmaker like Drew Weissman is going to impact an offense that was just beginning to score timely goals. Previously: 5

3. Somers (12-1) — This is the stretch the Tuskers have been looking forward to all season. John Jay, Rye and Pleasantville are next. Previously: 3

4. Iona Prep (11-5) — After dealing with some nagging health issues, the Gaels are hoping to have a couple of impact players back on the field in time for the playoffs. Previously: 2

5. Rye (6-3) — There have been a number of noteworthy wins, but it's hard not to think about where the Garnets might be if they were able to score four or five additional goals in tight games. Previously: 4

6. Mamaroneck (8-5) — Consistency is going to be important for the Tigers moving forward. Control is going to be big, too, in a weekend showdown with Scarsdale. Previously: 6

7. John Jay (10-3) — It seems the Wolves are pretty happy lurking just below the radar. They are poised to make a big jump if the defense continues to hold up. Previously: 7

8. Carmel (8-1) — The pressure is about to increase exponentially. A win over Mahopac would be the right way to open a stretch run that includes John Jay, Yorktown and Greenwich, Conn. Previously: 8

9. Greeley (8-5) — After getting humbled by a confident Somers team last week, the Quakers came back with more purpose and ran away from Byram Hills. Previously: 9

10. Tappan Zee (11-1) — There's a pretty good chance the Dutchmen will go undefeated against Rockland County opponents, but will that make them dangerous in sectionals?. Previously: 10
